This permit allowed the United States Air Force to treat by open detonation at Building 1503 on May 11, 1994 one 0 type explosive device which was found in the Hill Air Force Base housing area and treat by open detonation on May 12, 1994, 12 lb. of TNT and three sticks of dynamite which were identified during an inspection to be exuding nitroglycerin. The United States Air Force emergency ordnance disposal safety procedures require that potential unknown and exuding items be destroyed by open detonation. Each item was treated by open detonation with 1.25 lbs. of explosive. An emergency permit was requested by the United States Air Force to prevent imminent endangerment to human health and the environment. The emergency permit was issued by the Utah Department of Environmental Quality, Division of Solid and Hazardous Waste and is effective for May 1994 and expired on May 12, 1994.
