The decision left the Eagles unbeaten, while dropping WIPEOUT!: Top-ranke- overall mark. However, in in Davis remains contention for a state berth at league play, d TY BRONICEL tried a pass into the end zone, but it was broken up on a nice defensive play by B.J. Stark. Then, given a third chance, Watts nailed the kick. Following the kick, he fell to the ground in obvious relief, and the win was Cottonwoods. Dont forget to mention his name, Reardon said of Watts. He would have died if hed missed that last one. Bountiful threatened first in the game taking the opening kickoff 1-- 1. They were fired up and set us on our heels from the start, Skyline coach Roger Dupaix said. Luckily, our offense was able to match them before our defense caught on to what they were doing offensively. Skyline punched the ball in from the one on its next possession and scored again with 55 seconds left before halftime, giving the Eagles a 28-1- 4 edge. The creaking roof quickly caved in on the Darts to start the second league. Sports Writer SALT LAKE CITY Much like two sprinters running a 400-met- er race or in this case, a four quar'.er football game the Davis Darts stayed neck and neck with the formidable Skyline Eagles for the First leg Friday night. But the dead-hequickly turned into a Dart defeat as the Eagles flew easily away from at Davis and its defense, gliding to a thorough 53-2- 0 romp. Davis simply couldnt match offensive Skyline's pace, as the Eagles became a scoring machine during this homecoming hammering. Despite the lopsided score, Davis did have plenty of positives while falling to a Skyline team that remains the consensus to win the 5A crown this season. I thought we did some good things throwing the football, Davis coach Jim Dickson said, of the Darts air attack which gave ll tie lead and a Davis a before Skyline's offense took over. On its next possession, Davis had a deflected pass intercepted by Skyline, which turned it into a two-yar- d TD by Sky Grant, 46-1- 4 Eagles. 1 -- new-loo- offense gave the Eagles fits. Davis junior quarterback Kyle Olsen quickly marched the Darts down the field on their opening possession before hitting Josh Godfrey with a touchdown strike. Northridge becomes team to beat in second year By Sports Writer LAYTON Northridge High head coach Mike Rosky did something after a home game that had never been done before. After walking off the field and entering the locker room, he sat down and actually smiled. Im enjoying the heck out of this right now, said the Knight coach after the very first home win in the schools history. Im not surprised by our success, this is a lot more fun than last year. The last year coach Rosky refers to is the 0-- 9 opening season for the new school in Layton. And his mother moved up here to Layton and he came with her. We are good friends and he called and told me about this team and my mom moved up here as well, so I just came to live with her. Plus, we wanted better recognition. Two things are certain. Opposing teams will continue to question the luck of the Knights getting the traveling quarterback, running back tandem, and Northridge will continue their brows to and the Knights shrug off as just a twist of luck. Well we have Toby Davis who is our quarterback and Brandon Dart who starts at running back and defensive back, they help our team, admitted Coach Rosky. While some coaches have accused the Knights of recruiting the two stand-oii- r players from Union High, Davis has another to win as a team. Going into the season we hoped to win seven games, said Coach Rosky. Now I think we can win more, now we are looking at we would love to win region and play the first round of playoffs at home. We have all the weapons, and, we really think we can take it. 8-- 1, over Bonneville the Knights move to 4-- 1, with the seasons only blemish coming in a close battle with top ranked Hunter. We started off beating two of the best teams in the league, said Rosky, referring to Fridays win and last weeks victory over Layton. Now we become the team to beat. So what is the difference between this years team of players who gather on the field after the game with their helmets raised high and hugs all around and last years team who everyone referred to as our bye week? There are two major differences, said Rosky. The first is physical. All our kids are a year older and stronger. Indeed, the Knights were basically a JV team last year pitted against other schools seniors. FIRST PRACTICE: All was new in 92.
