A total of 23 teams were involved in the season opening tourney with some 375 women participating. Last year, the league boasted a Saturday afternoon began five days earlier. Its purpose was to determine the divisions in which the teams will be competing during the 1980 summer season. According to league president Cathy Olsen, eight teams are in each the A and B divisions with seven being placed in the C division. Division placement was decided based on the teams play in the tournament. This is the first year the womens league has divided teams into divisions, she said.
