The visiting Vikings appeared to have the game under control for the first two innings of the ball game before Carbon slowly chipped away at the Viking lead. A throwing error to first base in the bottom of the sixth allowed the eighth Dino run to cross home plate and may have very well cost them the game. The Dinos, after having experienced only one region win before Fridays game, was loose in this second to last outing and rose to the occasion with the aid of junior throwing ace, Brock Denny. Denny went the distance for Carbon in contributing to the fifth Viking loss of the season. Cedar City themselves are in the same 8-- boat as Carbon having won only two region games. Pleasant Grove displayed a vicious first two innings when they compiled all of their seven runs. Carbon, on the other hand, managed only one run in their half of the first inning on a pair of walks, a Viking error, and a sacrifice fly. Designated hitter, Barry Powell drove in Joe Try on as he cuffed a long fly ball to right field to put Carbon on the scoreboard for the first time. In the third inning as Denny began the Dino threat with a single. Joe Tryon then lined a double to right field which brought Denny in to home. Carbon again scored after two outs when the Vikings hurler, Swapp balked to bring in Powell from third base. Denny again highlighted the fourth inning when he smashed a triple past the Viking left fielder to drive in a pair of runs after two previous base on balls. Denny himself scored when he took ad vantage of a Pleasant Grove error. This locked the score at a heated 7 until the all - important sixth 7-- inning for Carbon. Jeff Murray began the winning with a walk.
