Show Wednesday, March 7, sun STATE Carbon High appears to be well pleased with the recent realignment action that places the Dinos back in Region Six with Utah County schools and Dixie and Cedar City according to Principal Eugene Crocco. This is the same region Carbon participated in for years prior to the re - grouping of two years ago that has seen the Dinos playing all the way from Vernal and Roosevelt, through Salt Lake City to Tooele. The presence of Dixie and Cedar City in Region Six for the past two years and again in the future is going to mean some long trips for Carbon, but principals in the region are working on plans to ease the situation as much as possible. The Region, as newly set up, consists of ten schools, seven in Utah County, Carbon and the two southern Utah schools. All schools will play each other in football this next year, giving each, nine league games with no time for any practice games. For basketball the region is being divided into two districts, five in each. A team will play all the other teams in their particular district twice on a home and home basis and will cross over to play each team in the other district just once on the cage court. It is the intention of the planners to preserve the traditional rivalries such as Provo - American Fork; Spanish Fork Springville; Dixie - Cedar City, etc., by keeping these schools within the same district for basketball. -- All of this is still in the planning stages and there are still details to work out, but the basic format has been set and the principals of the schools intend to work from that. Next year may bring some more changes if the second high school in Orem is ready and two more schools come into Region Six for a total of 12 which may make the districting a little easier and balanced. All in all, the change means the end of the trips over Indian Canyon to get to Vernal and Roosevelt, trading these trips for at least one or two to southern Utah to meet Dixie and Cedar City. The long journey to Tooele and the trips to Salt Lake County will end, the new setup making a little more sense than previously when Dino teams passed at least schools in Utah County to get seven Gass to their games up north. Principal Crocco seems to be pleased and enthusiastic at the possibilities the new alignment will offer Carbon. East Carbon also will get away from the long trips to the Uintah Basin to compete with such schools as Altamont and Duchesne, the new lineup putting the Vikings in a southeastern Utah region that is mixed with 3-- A N schools. The long trips and Class are far from over for East Carbon as well, because the new setup for them includes the Indian school of White Horse beyond Blanding and there is San Juan at Blanding to contend with too. Moab, Emery and San Juan are tne schools in this league competing Class with Class Monticello, Green River, White Horse and East Carbon.
