Ward, who has served as the departments top man the past four and a half years, was informed of his dismissal a few hours after he had met with the group, at their request. The council issued a brief statement concerning the action as follows: In a meeting held between the Richfield City Chief of Police and the Richfield City Council on Thursday, April 2, Boyd Ward, Richfield City Chief of Police was relieved of duty effective April 3, 1981. It was felt by the mayor and council that internal problems in the department made this change necessary. A council spokesman said Lt. Winners in the 12 categories, who were judged last month, will be announced during the program. Armed Robbery Nets 825 In Salina Holdup A lone gunman held up the Premium Oil gas station Monday night and made off with $825. Tammie Christensen, who was alone in the station on West Main Street when the robbery occurred about 10:15 p.m., said she did not hear a vehicle, and was mopping the floor when the man, whom she described as medium brown height with shoulder-lengt- h hair, a mustache and a full beard, came in. He told her to give him the money from the cash register, then displayed a pistol in his belt. He left through the east door and headed south, Miss Christensen told police, who searched the area and set up roadblocks. Police Chief Gordon Kiesel said roadblocks on Richfield, and Gunnison were set up within five minutes. The Sdpio highway was blocked within 15 minutes, and the entire area was combed, with negative results. All Salina motels were checked out. Police officers turned up three lids of marijuana, but no one matching the robbery description of the robber.
