The team i1' 3 Page 7 r, U . beat out nine other schools in the competition held in conjunction with the Region 8 round robin basketball tournament, including Parowan, the winner for the past two years, which in came second. The girls, under the direction of Denise Jensen, drillmistress who also choreographed the two routines, marched to music from Star Wars and the theme from Close Encounters of the Third Kind. The performance was rated by judges on appearance, smoothness of the drill, style and creativity. The judges said we were the cutest bunch of girls there, Jennifer Orison, who is advisor for the group, related proudly. The girls have been practicing up to six hours daily during the past week in preparation for the competition. The practice paid off, Miss Orison said. Escalantes team was third, and Kanabs fourth in the competition. Class 1-- A State Tournament Sixteen teams from Regions 8, 10 and 11 will begin competition for the basketstate Class 1-- A ball title Wednesday, March 8, at the Marriott Center at Brigham Young University. Although regional tournaments have not yet the final placings of the teams determined M which will compete, the tournament bracketing is set up into an upper and lower bracket, and game times have been determined. w w. ,v.v- ; Wolves Survive First Two Seviers Wolves survived the first two North days of the Region 8 round robin basketball tourney, easily defeating Piute and Parowan and assuring themselves of a state tournament berth for the eighth consecutive year. The Wolves will meet Milford, the first place team in Division 1, at 6 p.m. Friday, March 3, in Panguitch. In the only other game scheduled Friday, at 8 p.m., Kanab will meet Panguitch, the finisher in .first-plac- e Division 2. Milford twice defeated Coach Paul Becks squad a.m. : Region 8 first place vs Region 11 fifth place. Friday against Milford, they will advance to the finals, to be played at 8 p.m. Saturday. If they lose, they will play the games, first days the bracket pairings are as follows: 10 11 a.m.: Region 11 third place vs Region 8 fourth place. 1 p.m.: 10 Region 8 Region second place vs sixth place. 2:30 p.m.: Region 11 first place vs Region 8 seventh place. In the second days play, Valley Megioim lost to Piute, and Beaver was defeated by Wayne in the consolation side of the bracket, while Kanab overcame Gunnison on the winners side.
