Mike Leavitt congratulated the Davis High School Band and presented it with a letter of declaration in recognition of 'the bands accomplishments. The Davis High School Wind Ensemble has been invited to play at the MidWest Clinic, at an international band and band directors concert in December. It is not known how many bands apply for this prestigious invitation, but according to Davis High's band director Steve Hendricks, it is rumored that between 200 and 250 bands throughout the world send application tapes to the organization. From those one-hotapes only six bands are accepted. The band has known since last spring that it was one of the chosen few. It will fly out Dec. 16 and play in concert Dec. 17 at the Chicago Hilton and Towers. They will be playing in the International Ballroom. Band directors and composers from all over the world will pack into the ballroom with standing room only. Hendricks attended the clinic four years ago as a director. The concert is part of the clinic. It is done to present new literature done in the last year. The music is just off the press, Hendricks said. The directors go to hear the music to see if they want their own bands to buy and use it. It is a pressure situation, said Hendricks. You have your best in front of two thousand of the most critical ears. It is a scary experience, but very exciting. Davis High is the only school in Utah invited to the event. The school has three concert bands and according to Hendricks, with its 230 members, it has the biggest high school band program in the state. This is Hendricks ninth year at Davis High. In the event disaster were to strike, homeowners could take comfort in the fact that the guaranteed replacement clauses in their homeowners policies would cover rebuilding their homes - even if rising construction costs put the price tag over the value of the policy. However, after paying out billions of dollars in recent years to replace homes ravaged by floods and hurricanes, three of the nations largest home insurers have put a cap on pay outs for replacing insured homes at 120 to 125 of the policys value. Thus, homeowners must get the right coverage amount so they wdl not be underinsured. Homeowners should have an insurance adjuster estimate the actual cost to rebuild, or pay a builder for an appraisal. The office will be closed Nov. Tai Chi classes are taught on Mondays.
