Show Tuesday, October 27, 1998 Lakeside Review Exhibit features wood objects By RUTH MALAN Standard-Examine- r Correspondent LAYTON - An exhibit Turn, Turning, Turned: Contemporary Wood Objects is a special national touring exhibition sponsored by ExhibitsUSA. The exhibition will feature present-da- y turned wood objects. The practice is currently enjoying a revival among artists and collectors alike. The diversity of artists and objects represented show the potential of wood turning for formally-traine- d card. All children must be accom-;pamed by a parent or responsi-ble adult. TURN, TURNING, TURNED: These lathed wood pieces are part of Layton Heritage Museum. p.m. on Nov. 7 and 21. Bouwhuis is a former president of the Utah Association of Wood Turners. While traditional turned objects such as architectural detailing and bowls will be included in both the national and local displays, the exhibition will also feavesture numerous turned-woo- d sels and sculptural forms. The featured artists explore a diverse an exhibit of contemporary wood objects at the array of materials including buckeye burl, silver maple, myrtle-wood, ebony, tulipwood, red leopard maple and alabaster. In addition to the exhibited works there will be a number of toys and commercially turned objects. These objects will give the visitor the Chance for hands-o- n inspection. The Heritage Museum is open from 1 1 a.m. until 5 p.m. Mon- day through Friday and from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday. The Exchange Club is part of-- national organization, which began the Freedom Shrine project in 1949, to instill and preserve a lasting respect and appreciation for. our precious legacy of liberty. These documents, aptly called the Freedom Shrine, were rededicated at the city council meeting recently. Ron Barlow, director of the Bountiful Excharge club, which provided for the shrine, Independence, the constitution of the United states, the Bill of Rights, first inaugural Address of President Thomas Jefferson, The Gettysburg Address, the Emancipation Proclamation, and the Inaugural Address of President John F. Kennedy (1961). John Cushing, current mayor of Bountiful, served as the first president of the Bountiful Exchange Cub. Individuals seeking inspiration can view these documents at 790 S. 100 East in Bountiful. Freedom Shnnes have also been placed in many area high schools. Among the more than 20 artists represented in this exhibition are Dan Kvitka, Bruce Bemson, Helga Winter, A1 Stirt, Philip Moulthrop, Tom Rausche and Kaaren Wikcen, all nationally recognized wood turning artists. As complementary companions to the national exhibition, the museum will also feature wood turned works of local Davis and Weber County artists. Several members of the Utah Association of Wood Turners have agreed to display examples of their best work. A wood turning demonstration by David Bouwhuis of Clearfield will be featured at the exhibitions grand opening on Oct. 21 from 6:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. as well as additional demonstrations from 1 1 a.m. until 2 Standard-Examine- ets, and moon walk will be four.l tickets.
