Show 8 LAKESIDEYOUTH Tuesday. October 8. 1996 Join a club, get a date Clearfield High caps : Club Week with own ' version of Dating Game ; By SALLY GALE Standard-Examine- r correspondent CLEARFIELD - Nothing than Club Week organizers at Clearfield High sponsored their own Dating Game to show off the benefits of belonging to one of the school's 15 participating clubs. The Dating Game, patterned after the popular TV show, was a hit Thursday evening. Ivy Rusvice president sell, student-bod- y of clubs, randomly selected candidates who got to screen 10 unseen date wannabees. The first 10 boys and girls to reach the stage provided a pool of willing contestants. The field was quickly narrowed to three finalists by eliminating blonds, jocks, etc. After fielding more personal . questions, Weston Weekes and Sara Carter, and Jodi Atkinson and David Wait, chose each other as dream dates. The two couples will enjoy a double-dat- e as honored guests at the next pep rally. Seated on a sofa, front stage, winners will be showered with refreshments and attention as they watch the rally. Rather than send them off on an uncomfortable or awkward evening, Russell said, This is a nonthreatening way to let everyone enjoy the date. Club Week, an annual event held at the beginning of the school year, is designed to encourage students to investigate club offerings, meet club members, and spur recruiting efforts. Club Week activities allow clubs to show school spirit by taking part in competitive events to win points. The activities inconclude a sidewalk chalk-a- rt test, hall decorating competition, lunchroom musical chair event, cookie decorating, Dating Game, and a movie where club members donate canned food to be delivered to a homeless shelter. The winning club - the drama club this year - wins an afterwere school party. Runners-u- p the freedom club and the scream team. "My social life and group of friends was nowhere until I joined two clubs last year," Russell said. Then I felt welcome and part of something special. This year Ive joined five clubs. As a senior, Russell has seen the growth and benefits associated with belonging to a club. School clubs build character, provide leadership and service opportunities, encourage good grades, and involve the students in wholesome social activities.
