Bridges 773-488- Syracuse City Council Bridges 825-374- 0 Amy McCormack : Layton High I think so. and I think because girls dont . ; know how to say no to hoys. Girls get insecure about if the boy is going to like them or not so they feel they need to do certain things when they date. Personally I dont think that is how it should be. I dont think a boy deserves a kiss after a first date and not even the second and I think a lot of girls get intimidated by a guy and let him do what he feels like he wants to do. If it happens she should report it to her parents or to an officer at the police station. I think people should be more aware of how easily date rape can happen and know that a guy around school may be the one. He may be a guy you know in your history class. But people should be more aware and what they can do to help it not happen. 1 think it depends on the school situation too and whos in your school. Like in this school right now a lot of people do things together and we arc like one. We do a lot of stuff together. I lot of people now days dont date like they used to and we are always together. It depends on a certain school and whos there. If its your first date, dont single date. If its the third or fourth, I think its OK if you know the person well. If you arc 16 and dating a I dont think so. Its easier to get to know the person in a group. Your parents should know where you arc going and what you arc going to do. If you arc in a restaurant its OK to sit and talk, but if you are in a parked car out in front of your house, he might get the message she wants a little more because shes not getting out. If its a really nice guy and you know him well its not bad. Chad Carlson Layton High Date rape is definitely occurring more. I think thats because a lot of the morals in society are going down and I think the media influences that with shows that highly glamorize sex and those kind of activities. For the younger kids that watch those shows it is influential, television can have a lot of influence. I think that is where a lot of the influence comes from. Abusive families contribute to it. I think you see a lot more abuse in families because of the violence in society. I think things like that contribute to date rape. Its a sad thing. The way to prevent it is to reach out and help and make people understand the problem that it is. Education is probably the way to prevent it. Educating the kids on what sex does to people and how it hurts them, not only physically by getting them pregnant, but the emotionally strain. The emotional strain on the single mother that ' will probably have to raise the child on her own if she doesnt give it up for adoption, and things like that that put emotional stress not only on the mother, but on the parents and I guess that the education of the violence, would be to tone down the media. They would have to write to the networks, I guess. It would be a long and difficult process. If they arc raped they should report it. I guess thats the first step to prevention is to get people to report it. The constant rape offenders need to get of the streets to prevent them from doing it again and again and influencing other people to do it. Thats not i right. -- Crystel Croston Layton High ;; i know that it is happening more. I think the reason it is happening more often is because : ' the morals people dont todays society really care. Society is more relaxed. They show-thingon television that make people think these things arc all right. Also single dating has become more frequent, it used to be group dating. Things , have become more relaxed so the girls are more : . alone with the guys and a lot of times the guys arc confused about what the girls might want in the relationship. , ,,, I think they should stress the importance, maybe a little bit through school. Also mainly stress the importance on the parents; , with the upbringing of children the parents can form the morals of the children. That way the childs always going to know, they are always going to have an incentive of what is right and whats wrong. I think its the parents duty to help their child prepare for the future. I think if the child knows that deep inside, when they become older they arc going to know whats right and wrong, then they can choose for themselves. If it happens I do think it should be reported..
