Branch of The Kaysvillc-Davi- s the American Association of University Women is hosting the Monday. Jan. 4 event by invitation only at the Davis County School Dis- trict auditorium in Farmington. The discussion starts at 7 p.m. The focus of discussion will be AAUWs nationwide poll of 3,000 girls and boys in grades four to 10 that showed that, as they get older, girls experience a significantly more dramatic drop in levels than do boys. The resulting self-estee- m gap and a corresponding drop in girls interest in math and science have devastating consequences for the future of girls as they prepare for jobs in the 21st century, said Colleen Busenbark, branch president. Discussion of the poll findings will hopefully create "self-estee- m action strategies to address the problem of gender inequity in education, she said. Panel moderator will be Rep. Kim Burningham, a retired Bountiful High School educator. Panel members include John Robison, Davis High School coach and director of the district program; Kathy Bone, past president of UEA and principal at Whitesides Elementary; Lynn Tren- self-estee- m beath, Davis School District assistant superintendent; Ross Poore, - r ( V principal at Northridgc High School; Cheryl Allen, public relations, DATC, and past school board member; Ann Benson, Davis School District; Betty Brand, principal of Mountain High and Young Parents schools; Dixie Hill, board member-elec- t for the Davis Board of Education; Elaine Fast, JESSA, Davis School District; and Carol Hyde, AAUW gender equity grant recipient and mm AAIU-sponsor- "V 1 teacher of French and English.
