Show Lakeside Review, Tuesday, August 21, 1990 LakesideCommunity Concert to feature fiddlers, singers LAYTON The Layton Arts Council will feature the Royal Fiddlers from Ro High School and Sweet Harmony in its 11th concert of the Concert in the Park series. Sunday. Aug. 26 at 7 p.m. at Layton Commons Park. The Royal Fiddlers group was formed at Roy High School three years ago. an idea of Jean Summers Brighton, the school's orchestra director. Brighton has participated in local and national fiddling contests, and has recorded a tape of fiddle tunes. The group is the only active, fiddle group in the state that is sponsored by a high school. Besides traditional fiddle tunes, the group also performs a of rock, country and jazz numbers. Some of the selections variety ihe will perform. are. Batman. Heard it Rocky Top. Through the Grapevine. and Jessie Polka." The group has performed for local elementary schools. Gov. Norman H. Bangerter and completed a tour to Hawaii. Members of the group include Rich Angell. Patty Banks. Jenny Baikcr. Scott Barton, Andrea Bennger. Cheryl Berry. Sharalee Farr. Ashlce Ferguson. Monique Johnson. Melanie Jones. Dan Medell, Michelle Murray. Shauna Spencer. Candace Thorpe, and Lisa Vandcnberg. Fiddlers are accompanied by 1 Dale Pendleton. Lavora Burton. Scott Berry and Trent Porter. Sweet Harmony, a vocal group directed by Dianne Hoel-leihas performed together for 13 years at various places such as the Utah State Fair, Temple Square, the Dickins Festival, Festival of the Trees, and the Weber County Fair. Members of the group are Marilyn Hales, Ruth Ann Miller, Cindy Hooper, Marlene Jorgenson.
