Mrs. Higdon is now the cookie manager for the Lakeview correspondent From a Brownie LAYTON Scout to vice president of the rUtah Girl Scout Council, Julie Higdon has spent the last 20 years teaching and learning about life. . Mrs. Higdon, who started her Scouting career as a Brownie, was recently voted first vice president to the nations largest Girl Scout council as a write-i- n candidate. She took office in May.' She first decided to run for the position when she saw what she thought were some minor flaws in the Girl Scout system. I decided to put my money where my mouth is, rather than sit back and complain, she Service Unit. She serves as chairman of the Girl Scout Councils Association II, which serves all of Northern Utah. I stay in it because I think its a good program, she said. As first vice president Mrs. Higdon will be responsible for fund development and finance. She will be the liaison between the fund committee and the board of directors. Mrs. Higdon wanted to run for a council position when the election first got under way in April. Her husband, Robert, works at Hill Air Force Base and faced the possibility of being transferred. She wanted to make sure she would be around to serve her term. By the time I found out I was staying, they had already put together the slate, she said. That didnt stop her. She began a write-i- n campaign and won by a slim margin. I just decided this was my time. This was the time for me to do something, she said. She will serve a term. Over the years the mother of five has been a leader of troops at four age levels. Her children and husband are also involved in Scouting programs. Mrs. Higdon has held a variety of other adult leadership positions, including being director of the states largest service unit- its ar I guess this is the me generation. Weve gotten away from some of the values that our country was based on: love of God, love of country, honesty, she said. She is out to bring those values back and into the lives of the young girls who follow the examples she sets. In addition to her Scouting responsibilities Mrs. Higdon e works at the Farming-to- n Justice of the Peace Court. Art camp offers painting, more The CLEARFIELD Art Center will sponsor an art camp in Clearfield for young people next week. The sessions will run one week, Monday at through Friday, July Fisher Park in Clearfield. Students will meet each morning from 9 a.m. to noon. The registration fee is $50, including supplies.
