Show Competition, recreation and fitness Wednesday 4 February 8, 1989 oyals KURT MURRAY OSG Lakeside Review correspondent KAYSVILLE Victory oh sweet victory was the theme coming from the Davis Darts 8 locker room after their downing of the Bountiful Braves Friday night. Im really proud of the kids, said Davis Coach John Robison. Everyone who was in the game contributed and played hard, we are real proud of them. The Darts made a statement early as they scored the first seven points to open the game. Bountiful then countered with five straight points of their own to cut the Davis lead down to two points. But that was where the Darts took control and went on a 10-- 4 tear to close out the quarter and as both teams trotted o their benches the score read; Davis 19 Bountiful 11. In the second quarter, the Darts continued to hold their ground and control the game. They owned the boards allowing the Braves just one shot each trip shocker 63-4- ROY The number one rule 1 No team may be taken lightly. Boys basketball The home team found themselves ahead 18-- 6 with a couple minutes left in the first quarter, behind some sharp outside shooting. But Box Elder narrowed Roys advantage to just six points before the quarter ended. Chris Theil caught fire in the second quarter as he scored nine 22 points in that of his game-hig- h quarter. The Bees minimized Thiels efforts with a balanced scoring attack to climb within 1 at the half. , The upset bug sparked an epidemic last week. In this the final week of regular season games, no league titles are exactly teetering on one game but some interesting match-up- s will be featured. Tuesdays games: Weber at Clearfield: The Falcons have to continue winning and hope Bonneville gets careless. Weber is clinging to its state tourney hopes and will be hoping to build momentum going into the tournament. But the boys from Pleasant View still cant sit comfortably as a result of the spanking Clearfield dealt them last time. It wont be any easier this time. Roy held a 54-4- 8 advantage going into the final quarter. It was more than four minutes before the Royals found the hoop fourth quarter. That drought allowed Box Elder to launch all-- 2 run. There was no doubt in anyones mind that the momentum had shifted to the hungry visitors. The Bees grabbed the lead, 5956, with less than four minutes left. The partisan crowd from Brigham City became more vocal than the home crowd which was nearly five times as big. -. I havent been able to see a pattern in the way the Darts play so this prediction is pretty much a shot in the dark. Lets go Davis. Roy began desperation fouling to get the ball back, but Box Elder calmly hit their free throws to put the finishing touches on the upset. We started pressing when the game was close and it didnt work out very good, said Smith. Our shooting wasnt very good and we missed opportunities we should have capitalized on. Even if we would have won we wouldnt have deserved it because they just outplayed us. 11-- The Darts not only rebounded but also kept the momentum in their favor and to the displeasure of the Braves a tip-i- n at the buzzer by senior Chad Poulsen to end the first half did not help the Braves cause any.
