Show for opinion A forum Review Wednesday July 23, 1086 Utahns proud of heritage One of Utahs most prominent features is the states pioneer heritage. Many Utahns feel pride in their Mormon pioneer background. July 24 is the holiday for the state to recall and celebrate its heritage of industry, courage and perseverance. The plight of the pioneers is well documented and the hardship and struggles they endured on their long journey to find a home is a measure of human courage. This seeking for religious freedom typifies the American spirit. The pride in the pioneer tradition shows in area communities also, as residents re- member their pioneer background by celebrating with festivals. Farmington is one community where its pioneer roots are cherished. Founded in 1847 by Mormon pioneers, the city was built upon their traditions and today boasts many descen- dants of the communitys founders. In Vp our view double-s- '. . The trials the pioneers suffered during the long trek are passed down from generation to generation, in memory of the brave people. Along the way, many battled and lost to starvation, cold and sickness. Stories tell of one pioneer who lost all nine children and his wife to sickness during the journey. Determination and a fierce desire to worship as he wished drove the man on.
