Show jC 4C Lakeside Review, Wednesday, December 4, 1985 Darts pin victory tale on Tigers Ogden started and stayed in a zone defense which was easily broken by Davis inside play of John Rees and Mike Taylor and the outside shooting of Brent Meier and Greg Willard. We played real well at times, and did just about what we wanted to accomplish. And that was to get that important first win, said Robison. Davis controlled the first half and went into the locker room e lead. with a 3 The Tigers came out fired up for the opening of the second half but were only able to pull to within six at 6 at the end of the third quarter. Ogden opened the fourth quarter with a press which had little affect on the Darts, but the Tigers Sean Mooney and Matt Campbell turned on the Ogden scoring machine to get to within one at 7 with 4:40 remaining in the game. Lynn Averett Review correspondent Davis High KAYSVILLE School was the site of the opening hoop wars for two schools long on tradition. The Ogden Tigers traveled to Davis with visions of upsetting the Class squad, but the Darts were ready as they scored first and never looked back on 2 their way to 3-- A 4-- A 63-5- pre-seas- win. 42-3- full-cou- 12-- 13-- half-tim- 29-2- We only had three days of practice to prepare for the game. And I'm pleased with the teams performance. They played extremely well for only playing together three times," said first year Davis coach John Robison. The Darts opened the scoring and increased their lead to 4 in what looked to be a blowout. But the Tigers didnt give up as they pulled to within four at the quarter rt On this night, however, the Darts were not going to be denied the victory. " Davis Rees took it to the Tigers as he poured in a game high 25 points, with most of them coming from his strong inside play. Mike Taylor came up with a couple of key steals, which led to two fast breaks and four points. Any hopes of the Tigers going home with a win ended when Sean Mooney fouled out of the game with 2:22 left. The Darts then pulled away and finished the Tigers from the foul line. Ogden is an excellent basketball team, and they should be given credit for not giving up. Theyre going to win a lot of games this year, said the Davis mentor. The Darts had three players in double figures with Rees, the leading scorfer, getting 25. Meier contributed 16, and Taylor added twelve. Willard chipped in eight and Chris Card had two to round out the scoring. The Tigers were lead by big Sean Mooney with 22 and Matt Campbell hit for 14 and Wendall , Malone added seven. In the past, Region 4 has been one of the strongest regions from top to bottom, and coach Robison doesnt expect this year to be any different. East, Bountiful and Highland have some excellent players and are expected to win the region crown, but I think any team in the region can beat any other. So I expect an exciting title chase. said Robison. il 48-4- 9. ; Sports briefs b-b- all Wheelchair basketball in- volving eight Intermountain will roll into Ogden on teams fice. 5.
