Show Lakeside Review, Wednesday, July 17, 1985 ' I ! fi ts Antelope Island Ferry to Undergo Changes SYRACUSE Some changes are being made because of the moderate number of passengers I riding the new Antelope Island : ferry. r peditions, owners and operators "Some people from Florida said Florida beaches dont have anything on the Antelope Island beaches. They wanted to know why there were so tew people going to the beaches, Keller said. Brine flies, which keep Utah natives familiar with the pesty insects away from the lake, are not a problem this year, Keller said. Salt content that normally attracts the flies is lower. And the company skims foam from the lake near shore to keep the flies down. Changes are being made in concessions on the island. A shuttle bus to Buffalo Point will now of the ferry service and island concessions. Though two boats have been y added to the fleet, one of the boats is not yet needed. have come to take the ferry trip after seeing the Most of sign along Interstate-1them have enjoyed the ride to the island, Keller said. The people Ive talked to, local or not, enjoyed the trip, Keller said. One traveler from Tooele told Keller he would be coming out every weekend for the slow, breezy trip across and back. one-ferr- On the suspicion that high prices may have discouraged riders, Western Rivers Expeditions, ' operators of the ferry and island ; concessions, has cut prices from ;$8.50 to $5.50 for adults and to ;$3.50 for children. The ferry has been operating since July 1. Weekend voyagers from Syracuse to Antelope Island have numbered about 60 a day on weekends, said Lynn Keller, of Western Rivers Ex- I (' 3A er Job Corps Out-of-state- rs 5. one-ho- I Liaison Gets Praise SOUTH WEBER Jay Fisher, laison between the Davis County School District and the South Weber Job Corps Center was commended by the center recently for his work with students. A concessions stand on the white sanded island serves hamburgers and drinks. Canoes and aquacycles can be rented. And over-nigcamping and backpacking are available to the more adventurous travelers to Antelope Island. We dont have any big ambition to change anything on the mainland. The main thing were concerned about is getting people to come to the island, Keller said. The ferry will run until October, depending on the demand. After school starts it may only run on weekends, Keller said. ht 9o7r wj1 I ice cream Janet Lee Buns; Hamburger orHot Dog 905 1 ! Davis County is the support system for the two job corp centers, So. Weber and Clearfield, since they are both located in the county. When high school age students drop out of the regular system and Job Corp has the training they are interested in, the district is reimbursed by the state and pays Job Corp $1,000 per full time student enrolled. Since there are slots for a hundred students, almost $100,000 was generated for their training, Ulrich said. And Job Corp chose to take the money out in school district computer services, teachers instruction and the purchase of other equipment through the school district. There are three alternatives to regular high school, Ulrich said. Job Corp has training in heavy equipment, for example, whereas the Davis Area Vocational Center does not. But the DAVC offers machine shop, something not taught at the Job Corp. The two programs are available for students who may not want to attend Mountain High, the alternative high school in Davis County. Fisher does a good job at keeping students in some kind of schooling, Ulrich said. Students from ?11 over the state and country attend Job Corp. About 40 attend from Davis County, and another approximately 60 students attend from other Utah cities. They receive 150 hours of training in the classroom and in experience in the different building and maintenance trades. A computer training course is now being expanded, Ulrich said. on-si- Ground Beef Patties 0Ground BeefWt n 1.19 ; 0Boneless HamsnS?? 1.79 99c Beef Back RUjss, 1.89 Sliced BaconssriM,' 0Chip DipsfS German wieners 0 0Com Dogs m oz Morrell ....1 it) R) Armour 0Large Prawns : 0Tiger Prawns w0Shrimp MeatSST 1.49m Le 99s Boneless Cut lip Fryers Country Pride Grade A ' SAVE 27 U. r' Country Wide Roast Turkey aS Norbest SAVE 49 Lb. i ,1.99 0FlourTortiilaslSm i80273c 0Potato Salad Fkxv tom Chops Center 1 m Cut QQ 2.19 1.69 A 0Sausags Rolls rz&r 0Smoked Sausage 0Ba!l Park 2.39 2ID Macaroni Franks" 0Fresh Salmon 1.99 1.99 2.99 7 te Franchise Tax Hiked in Farmington In anticiFARMINGTON revenue federal of loss of pation sharing funds, according to Farmington City Manager Max Farmington City has voted to raise franchise tax rates by 1 percent.
