life in the Region I football race with a convincing 24--0 romp over Gearfield here Friday night The Warriors improved their record to in league play and 4 overall and they still have hopes of reaching postseason play with victories in the final two games The Falcons find themselves in the same situation also with a region record and overall mark “I told the kids early in the year that we would be a better football team when we got some experience and a couple of games under our belt" said jubilant Weber head coach Rod Bockwoldt “We came back and played a pretty good game Our offense moved the ball well and our defense was outstanding for us We got a little lackadaisical in the second quarter and again early in the fourth but the kids worked hard and they earned this win" The story of this one was all defense The visiting Warrior defense gave the offense all the opportunity it needed by creating eight Falcon turnovers That along with 85 jards in penalties against the Falcons kept the home team well within the shadow of their own goal post all night “You have to play for field postion and the defense does that for you" remarked Bockwoldt “This was a slippery field and Gearfield had a lot situations where they had to of throw the ball" The pattern was set early in the game On their first possession the Warriors marched from their line to the Falcon 21 which was close own field enough for Casey Barker to boot a and give Weber a 0 lead at the 5:27 mark of the first period Gearfield owned the ball for only one play after the ensuing kickoff before coughing it
