Show Candidate for Utah County Cleric LaMar re-electi- Files intent for County Treasurer LaMar Losser, former mayor of Payson City, has filed for the position of Utah County Treasurer on the Democratic ticket. Mr. Losser was born in Benjamin, Utah to Isaac and Mary Beardall Losser. He was graduated from the Spanish Fork High School and the Utah Technical College at Provo, Utah. Mr. Losser married the former Arzley Peterson and they are the parents of the following children: Mrs. Duane (Janice) Patten and Neil L. Losser. He is now serving as a High Councilman in the Nebo Stake, Past Elders Quorum president, Advisor in the Aaronic Priesthood and has served on the Stake Aaronic Priesthood Committee. Professionally, Mr. Losser has been in the real estate business, a machinist for Dupont and General Electric and owned and operated his own grocery store for 15 years. He is a veteran of World War Mel Hanks Announces plans for candidacy Hanks, Salem businessman and former Mayor of Salem, announced today his candidacy for the nomination for Utah, County Commissioner, two year term on Mel the Democratic ticket. He has had a long record of successful experiences in business and government. With his two sons Vaud and Shirl, he owns and operates a thriving furniture and appliance store in Salem. Mr. Hanks was manager of the Imperial Paint and Wallpaper store in Provo for five years. He was an interior decorator in this area for years and became friends with many people of Utah County. He has always been active in Civic affairs of his community. He served 2 years as a Salem City Councilman and was Mayor for eight years. He was chairman of the March of Dimes and Red Cross for five years. Mel has been a member of Lions International since 1941, serving as President of the Salem Club, Deputy District Governor, District Governor and received the Outstanding Service Award in 1951 for helping to organize eleven clubs in the State of Utah. He is at present a past District Governor. Mel says, Service to others has given me more pleasure thru my life than any other thing Ive done. Mel loves people, is friendly and sociable to everyone. He wants to see things grow and develop. No job is to big or to small if done and done welL He served you as your County Commissioner for a two year term in 1965-6- 6. Mr. Van Wagenen married the former Phyllis Barker of North Ogden and they have six children, three of whom are married, Lola, Richard and Gary and three at home, Betty, a student at BYU, Wayne, at Provo High School and Lita, H. During his four years as mayor of Pay-so- n, the sewage disposal plant was built, the Payson City Hospital was reconstructed, the ball park in Orchard HiUs was completed, and an equipment shed was built and Mayor Losser worked closely with the Senior Citizen organization. LaMar Losser has devoted many years of his life in serving mankind and all who know him wish him success in his political endeavors. Announces plans for candidacy children. He has been active in church and civic affairs having served as superintendent of the Springville Ninth Ward Sunday school, and also served on the board of directors of the Springville Junior Chamber of Commerce, and as president of the Springville Lions Club. Since 1967 he has been in private law practice with his law office located in Provo. He has a Bachelors Degree from the Brigham Young University and a Law Degree from he University of Utah, and is a member of the Utah State Bar and holds a license to practice in all of the Fedeal Courts. Ramp-to- n, today announced his candidancy for Congress of the United States in the first Congressional District. Rampton. Mr. McKay has been active in church and in civic affairs. Gunn McKay was born in Ogden, Utah, February 23, 1925, and was raised in Huntsville in Weber County. He served in the United States Coast Guard. during the Second World War and then spent two years in England as a missionary. uring the years that followed, he engaged in private business and farming in Weber Eagles. He is a past president of the Squaw Peak, Chapter 24, International Footprinters Association, and a member of the Payson Volunteer Fire Department, of which he is a past chief, and a member of the Utah State Firemens Association, and also an active member of the Cock- lebur Riding Club. He is a past president of the Payson Lions Club and is a member of both the Payson Chamber of Commerce and the Provo Chamber of Commerce. A member of the LDS Church, he is PAY'ON CHRONICLE Thursday, May 14, 1970 10 on Ralph (Dick) Chappie, Payson, announced today that he will seek to the office of Utah County Sheriff on the Republican ticket. Sheriff Chappie, a native of Spanish Fork, has lived in Utah County all his life. He was a member of the Payson Police Department for 18 years and Chief of Police in Payson for 12 years before being elected Utah County Sheriff. In 1957 he was named the Outstanding Peace Officer of Utah County in the annual award made by the Footprinters Association, and in 1969 he was named the Outstanding Peace Officer in the State by the tics. Arnold C. Roylance has announced his candidacy for Utah County Attorney on the Democratic ticket in the coming Fall elections. He served for many years as Utah County Attorney until 1967. Prior to that time he was City Attorney tor Springville ' i Frank A. Van Wagenen, of Provo, has officially announced his candidacy for the office of Utah County Clerk on the Democratic ticket. Mr. Van Wagenen has been a lifetime resident of Provo and has been in radio broadcasting for twenty years as an organizer and operator of KIXX Radio with his brother, Harold. He is a business graduate from the BYU, a veteran of World War H. He served as a missionary in the Eastern States and was secretary of the mission and mission historian. For many years he served as a scoutmaster, scout leader and is now serving in the Provo District and Utah National Parks Council boards. His church callings have included bishop, high counselor, and member of the Provo Stake Presidency. He also served as vice president of the BYU Alumni Association and is active in the American Legion Post 13 and the Chamber of Commerce. He has recently been active as president of his large family organization wherein they have just completed a large family historical and genealogical book, representing 25 years of work.
