Mrs. Anderson was chosen through a prize winning essay submitted by her daughter, Robyn. Boys & girls in the Payson area were invited to write an essay telling why they believed their mother should be named representative mother of Payson in the Mothers Day sales promotion arranged by Payson Chamber of Commerce. There were 65 entries. The queen was crowned by Mayor Howard Riley, who placed a glistening rhinestone tiara upon her head in the between-shoevent. Prof. Andy Anderson was master of ceremonies and performed a few sleight-of-hatricks. Musical selections were by the stage band from Payson High School, directed by Gary Winkel of the faculty. The prize winning essay was read by June Dickey before announcement of the winner was made. Robyn Anderson was then asked to escort her mother, who was completely surprised by the to the stage, where she was presented with an arm bouquet of pink and white carnations. Robyn received a cash award of $10 for her essay. Committee members from the Chamber of Commerce were June Dickey, chairman; Marie Forsey, Roland Losee and Sam McFadden. Songs, poems and literature of all types have been written in dedication to mothers since history began. Mothers down through the ages have been recognized as the chief force behind successful men. To each, his own mother means more than any other mother, and each should acknowledge his mother as Queen for a Day. Every mother has a basic feeling of love and charity for her children. She shows this through service to them. This camp-o- ut is growing in popularity every year, and last year between 700 and 800 men and boys attended. The events is arranged to commemorate the restoration of the Aaronic Priesthood to the Prophet Joseph Smith on May 15, 1829. A program Friday night will feature Col. Calvin Jackson, a former Command' Pilot in the Air Force and now an LDS Bishop in Salt Lake City. In addition to the barbecued beef, the Friday nights menu will include baked beans, hard rolls, baked potatoes and hot chocolate, to be furnished and served by Nebo Stake.
