Show 10 THE PAYSON CHRONICLE Thursday, April 30, 1970 omuues Council CARING ABOUT CAREERS Several months ago the Board of Trustees at Payson Hospital voted to set up a restricted Endowment Fund solely for the purpose of assisting our youth in pursuing studies to graduation in one of the many choice health careers. We all recognize fully that our townspeople who have been raised and appreciate the beautiful area in which we live will be much more apt to return and give of their talents to their Home Town" than strangers from the big cities. Therefore, we feel this is a most excellent program and we need the support and interest of everyone. Since its inception, the Endowment Fund has had very little support, and if it is to become effective, and if during the next many years we are able to continue to staff our hospital with the excellent professional help that we have at the present time, we certainly must be actively engaged in a type of ongoing careers and recruitment program. Hospital Administration, the Board of Trustees, and the staff are quite convinced that the Endowment Program is an excellent media to pursue this end. However, it will only be as effective as the funds allow it to be. This introductory publication is to acquaint our readers and interested citizenry about the Endowment Fund and the ultimate success will surely be up to each of us. This Endowment Fund is established KEY LIMOUSINE SERVICE Joyce Provstgaard Association of Hospital Auxiliaries. There are nearly fifty hospitals in the State of Utah, and most of them have auxiliaries. This is an outstanding recognition for Payson Hospital and is commendation for the excellent work our Pink Ladies are doing. Actually, this is a vote of confidence showing the prestige with which Payson Hospital is held by the State Hospital Auxiliary Association. This is the first year elections have been held. The Board of Trustees of the Utah State Hospital Association recently voted to change. The Pink Ladies work under the umbrella, but have changed so that they are now an arm of the Hospital Association. Last year the Pink Ladies donated over 6,800 hours of volunteer work at the Payson Hospital This is commendable and certainly they are an asset to a fine team in helping to give better health care to our communities. d) HOW ARE FUNDS SECURED? If you have a son or daughter who would like to make application for this fund and they intend pursuing a career to become a registered nurse or such, they certainly should make application for assistance and, hopefuUy, monies wiU be available. Please read this column next week where we will discuss this fund with regard to donation of monies in lieu of flowers for hospitalized patients or funerals. In the meantime, if you belong to a club or just are interested personally in helping, wont you please consider the career needs of our youth for the future? Motion so that anyone who is in need of financial assistance and is interested in pursuing a health career in a choice professional area such as R.N., L.P.N., Medical Technologist, etc., can make application for a loan from the fund. The enticement to return to Payson Hospital is that, upon graduation, if the individual will return to Payson Hospital to work, the loan wiU be decreased in a proportionate amount and will be deducted in the proportionate amount of time the individual works at the hospital. Or, in other words, it becomes a grant unless the person does not return to work, at which time the loan must be repaid with interest. Presently three choice people from our local area are pursuing the course to become an L.P.N. and in September will have completed their course under the assistanceship of the Health Careers Endowment Fund and plan to return to Payson Hospital to work. However, as the program is progressing there is, or will not be, funds available for very much more assistance unless more help is received. ries.
