That is the day that the Paysort Lions defeated the team from the Judge Memorial School in Salt Lake City. It was truly a wild and very fast game. We are all very proud of our boys. It is something like this and the waythe kids from around here celebrated the event that makes it known to all of us that our youth of today are still as good as ever; that there is all the hope in the world that they will not let anything or anyone jeopardize their lives or the lives of others in the community. Three cheers for all of them. Thursday, November 20, 1969 was also a day to remember because it was our first step forward in the battle against the problems that we all face, the problem that the drug situation poses. Chief Jim Box and his associate, Richard Diamond, really told it like it is in the PTA meeting held that night in the Payson Junior High School. I am sure that quite a few of the people attending were surprised to learn some of the things that Chief Box and his men encounter in their endeavor to uphold law and order in our community. I doubt if very many of those attending realized that the drug problem was as wide spread as it is and that a few of our children are involved. It is a shame. We spend, as taxpayers, millions of dollars each and every year to further the projects to eliminate all kinds ofdisease and we ought to learn to communicate with each other in this problem that is facing our youth today. It is growing by leaps and bounds and something has to be done about it or we will all be sorry. What are we to do? I suggest that we have further meetings with Chief Box and learn more about the ways to eliminate people who would introduce or push drugs in our area. Maybe we could secure people who are professionals in this line of problem to come and talk to all of us on ways of doing awjiy with this kind of element. The Bible says Seek and Ye shall find and maybe that is the key word or phrase to guide us. Chief. Box told parents that one way to eliminate children from the drug scene was for each one of us as parents to know where our children are at all times. I heartily agree with this, but I would say one word further, that parents have to want to know where their own children are. Some people who have children of this susceptible age are so busy staying young themselves, they think, that they havent time to care what happens to their kids. You can believe this or not, but it is a well known fact that among some of the parents today it is a lot easier to give them a twenty dollar bill and the keys to a flashy new car than it is to be sure that they are in at a decent hour. How can our kids grow up in their few years when their parents have not yet grown up in twice the time? I know that this is not the rule, to any great extent as yet, but the way things are going, it very well could be. Chief Box told us that there is now a drug that can be thrown on anyone and within eighty-seconthey could be on a trip. If that is the truth and I have no reason to believe otherwise, we had better be on our toes. Also, we were told by Policeman Diamond, who was formerly associated with Chief Graham of Springville who is a pioneer in fighting drugs, that if we or our children go to a party or gathering, that we had better not eat anything, drink anything or turn our backs at anytime. If drugs can be introduced in such a sly manner, again we had all better be alert. It made a great number of us stop and think and I sincerely hope that it wont stop at that. I hope that we will continue to care enough to learn all that we possibly can in order to do away with this situation.
