On Friday, Memorial Day, our family was preparing to spend the week-en- d at the Diamond Campground up Diamond Fork About 9:00 p.m. our 12 Canyon. year old son was sitting up at the sign waiting for the rest of the family. When it began to grow dark and cool he started down to In crossing the cattle guard his camp. foot slipped through the rails and his leg was badly cut. He picked himself up and started back to camp. Halfway down the hill he was met by his little sister who could see he was hurt. At the bottom of the hill were some people reading the signs or getting their entrance envelopes. Our asked them for help, for her brother was hurt. They didnt bother to see if he was hurt or to even answer her. If they had even looked they could have seen he was bleeding profusely. After being re- -, fused once they didnt ask for help again, to camp. although it was almost ahalf-mil- e By the time they did make camp, she was almost carrying him, he was so weak from loss of blood. Later at the Payson Hospital 40 stitches were required to close the gaping wound in his leg. I have heard of people refusing to help adults because they didnt want to get involved, but a child. What are we becoming, when a child is hurt and asks for help and Is ignored? The next day, hearing a little boy had been hurt, Mrs. Ammon Throckmorton of Payson, came over to our camp to see if there was anything she could do to help. She, offered us the use of their chaise lounge so our son could be more comfort- able. Completely trusting us to return it to her home later. Why arent there more people like Mrs. Throckmorton? We spoke to the Ranger and they have assured us every effort will be made to find a way to erect the cattle guards so there will be no more accidents of this I shudder to think of how bad it kind. would have been if it had been a smaller child whose leg went through those rails. We want to thank Dr. Tom Judd for his promptness and willingness to help. Also the doctors and the emergency nurses kindness to our son through his ordeal. Mr. & Mrs. Jack L.
