The twenty new sports cars which will be driven by passengers on the remodeled freeway are specially designed vehicles allowing greater freedom of action. The cars are fabricated by a west coast manufacturer who developed the vehicle for Disneyland. The modernized car, styled to look like a current sports car, permits the driver maximum maneuverability the freeways overpasses and inclines. Bumpers along the Speedway route have been removed, and a center rail provides the only guide. Patio Gardens has been converted into a modern facility for roller skating. Teen dances will be held on Saturday night only, and all other times the facility will be open for roller skating. One of the most dramatic trends in years has been the resurgence of roller skating as a popular participation sport. There are approximately 5,000 roller skating facilities now operating in the United States. There is a Roller Skating Foundation of America promoting the sport as well as an International Federation of Roller Skating Association whose aim it is to make roller skating a part of the Olympic Games by 1972. It appears that roller skating appeal has reached the very young and has stayed with them through maturity. Girl Scouts have long been able to obtain a Merit ' Badge for proficiency in roller skating. Just about every youth organization has used the sport as a successful social and physical development. HighSchool physical education pro- - grams in many parts of the country include roller skating as a part of its activity. The reason for the growing popularity of the sport, is the interest of school, church and industrial youth and social groups which all want wholesome enter" tainment. Roller skating is the sport of a lifetime for millions of Americans. Lagoon will be open Saturdays and Sundays until Decoration Day when daily operation begins.
