Show ' - Birthday honors Mrs, Grover Montague was honored on her birthday, Friday, March 28, 1969. It was also the birthday of her daughter, Maxine a double honor for both. A dlicious luncheon was served and the afternoon was spent visiting. Mrs. Montague received many lovely gifts. Special guests were her two daughters, Mrs. Richard A. (Judy Ann) Olsen of North Ogden, Utah and Mrs. Earl (Maxine) Riggs of Clearfield. Also visiting Mrs. Montague was her niece and her two daughters, Mrs. Jerry (Karma) Baum and Mrs. David (Sherry) Harrison both of Spanish Mrs. BlFork; and her daughter-in-laaine L. Montague. Guests were Mrs. Amber Carter, Mrs. Eva Cannon, Mrs. Addie Wilson, Mrs. Jane Cartwright, Mrs. James Hiatt Jr. and Mrs. Donna Cartwright Elmer all of Pay-so- n; Mrs. Gladys York of Genola and Mrs. Alice Daniels of Santaquin. organization. Other officers elected for the coming year will be: Noel Dixon, first vice commander; Gilbert Ercanbraek, second vice commander; Ralph Balzley, treasurer; Duane Dockstader, chaplain; Ross Dowdle, historian; Dr. W.L. Lafferty, service officer; Joe Wilcock, sergeant at arms. Office of adjutant and various committees will be appointed by the new commander. Installation will take place April 19. A representation of state and district officers is expected. Going away party Ann Wirthlin ; Engagement news Miss Ann Wirthlin, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Rex Wirthlin, and Mr. Randy Sanderson, son of Mr. and Mrs. " Willis Sanderson of Etna, Wyoming, are Vf announcing their engagement. Miss Wirth- lin has been making her home with her ' aunt, Mrs. Evelyn Kay of Santaquin. Miss Wirthlin is a graduate of the Pay- son High School and LDS Seminary. She has been attending the Utah State Univer-;- r sity in Logan. While at Payson HighSchool, was President of the the bride-ele- ct j, Club and active in dance activities. Pep Mr. Sanderson, the bridegroom-ele- ct was vice president of his class, and was prominent in the field of athletics and be- came an All State Football and Basketball tr Star. He is also a graduate of the LDS .'1 Seminary in Afton, Wyoming and is ly attending the University of Wyom-ln- g on an athletic scholarship. The couple are planning an early June . New presidency The Nebo Stake Primary presidency was reorganized recently with Clela Barnett assuming responsibilities as president. Her counselors are Mary Rasmussen and LaFonda Cook. Clara Holden remains as secretary, and other board members were retained. The retiring presidency are Valera Hogan, president; Mary JeanBrown first counselor; and Dorothy Searle, second counselor. The lesson, Great Music of the World, was, given by Mirla G. Thayne, Mrs. Thayne stated that 'words are con-- $ y Crete and music is fluid. She said that all music is produced in eight tones. She described the sounds made by vibrations. Man is born into a world that is born of music, said the composer. All music comes from a ban, blow or the quiver-- s ing of a string. Guests were Shirle Money, Carrie Hansen and Perle The Payson Senior Seminary held their Graduates Banquet, Friday, March 21, Stake Center. 1969, at the Santaquin-Tinti- c The theme of the banquet was No Great-e- r Power. The graduates and four year students, as well as their instructors and ' the bishoprics of their wards, were honored at the banquet. At 6:30 the program was held in the chpael with President Hal Taylor as the guest speaker. They were favored with a musical number from a mens quartet made up of Reed Nelson, Carvell Patten, Layne Murdock, and Reid EwelL After the program, a meal was served in the cultural hall, prepared by the women of Santaquin - Tintic Stake. The students received their Seminary pins and guards, and they felt that it was an enjoyable way to be honored for their achievements. Ouilicle. x 4 3 i , . Some of the worlds great music was played for the Penwomen and their guests and a comparison of some of the music was made to nature. Dugway, Utah. Sex education Seicus (Sex Education and Information Council of the United States) and Sex Education in the School will be discussed at the PTA meeting at the Payson Jr. High School, April 17. Speakers for the evening will include: Myrlan G. Brown, Editor and te Publishing Co. in publisher of Dauna Sandmire, colHurricane, Utah; umnist and reporter on radio station KSUB; Betty Sandmire and Truman Lynch, representatives of the Cedar City PTA board. All are well informed on the subject to be discussed. PTA members, parents and interested adults in the community are urged to be present. The meeting will be opened to a k question and answer period. Patricia Roper wish to recognize as our Teacher Week, Mrs. Marian (Patricia) Girls Physical Education Teacher, Roper, at the Payson Middle School. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. DelMar Whitney of Springville. Patricia was reared in Springville. She is a graduate of the Springville High School and of the Utah State University at Logan. She is MIA Dance Director for the Seventh Ward and is Social Chairman of the Young Marrieds. She taught her first year in the Granite School District in Salt Lake City. Makes about 1 12 cups. 1 1 SPIRAL WALDORF SALAD 6 large red Rome Beauty apples (or any kind you prefer) cups cold water cup lemon juice, frozen or canned 1 , cup diced celery , 12 cup seedless raisins, plump 1 cup tiny marshmallows 14 cup mayonnaise 14 cup heavy cream, whipped 1 2 cup coarsely broken California walnuts 6 lettuce leaf cups Pare apples very thick, being sure each paring is long and unbroken. Measure water and add 1 tablespoon of lemon juice, drop paring in, to keep color bright. Core pared apples and dice fine; sprinkle with remaining lemon juice. Combine apple cubes, celery, raisins, marshmallows and mayonnaise. Fold in whipped cream. Just before serving, add nuts. Curl each paring into cup shape on lettuce. FiU with salad. Serves 6. 13 SPICED PEACH SALAD Combine one quart of home preserved or canned peach halves, 1 tablespoon vinegar, 1 to 2 sticks cinnamon and 1 teaspoon cloves. Heat to the boiling point then simmer for five minutes. Chill-Dr- ain and stud with whole cloves. Serve on lettuce leaves with favorite dressing with cream, whipped or just the whipped cr6&m ilon6 FLUFFY FRUIT MARSHMALLOW DRES- 4-- ' , 4-- theatre. Pour into 2 quart refrigerator tray; freeze to just a mush (1 hour). Thaw pineapple chunks just enough to eat, (some ice crystals should remain.) Drain. Mix with grapes, cherries and melon. Jerry Wayne Yates who is the son ofMrs. Faye R. Yates of St. Louis, Missouri. The young couple were married March 22. They will be hohored at a reception in the Santaquin-Tinti- c Stake Center on April 19. The new Mrs. Taylor is a graduate of Payson High School and PaysonSeminary. She also attended Technical College at Provo. Mr. Yates graduated from Dupont Community High School in Dupo, Illinois and is at present serving with the Armed Forces stationed at Dugway Proving Grounds, On in wtth 1h Officers of the Primary Association of the LDS church wish to express their thanks and appreciation for the cooperation they received from the public in the recent Birthday Penny Drive. Funds are used for the Primary Childrens Hospital in Salt Lake City. A total of $2,315 was collected by Primary officers and teachers of Nebo Stake. This amount is a little more than $200 more than collected last year, according to Clela Barnett, newly sustained stake Primary president. Mrs. Barnett gives thanks to those who donated and also to the women whoworked on the drive. She also gives credit to the retiring stake Primary officers, Valera Hogan, president; Mary Jean Brown and Dorothy Searle, Counselors. New counselors in the presidency are Mary Hendrickson and LaF onda Cook, who were sustained with Mrs. Barnett February 20. GOOD COOKS Tri-Sta- - Penwomen meet PRIMARY PAYSON Vows spoken Teacher Profile There is a definite feeling of anticipation as teenage people, young people, and all people look forward to the dance to be held, Saturday, April 12th. The Nebo Stake will host the first of these monthly events scheduled for the second Saturday of each month. The thly dance is being sponsored through the cooperation of the Nebo, Palmyra, Santaquin and Spanish Fork Stakes. The Inter stake Dance will begin at 8:30 p.m. in the Cultural Hall of the Nebo Stake Center. For this months dance the versatile John Reeves Orchestra of Orem will provide the music. There will be enjoyable entertainment during the intermission period. Admittance is by church activity card plus fifty cents. Dress for the occasion is Church Standard Dress. Max Llewelyn was elected commander of the Payson American Legion, post 48, in elections which took place Friday night at the Legion Hall. Mr. Llewelyn succeeds Edward G. Chappel as head of the local w, Mr. and Mrs. Selwyn Koyle entertained at dinner at a local cafe for their daughter Claudia, and her husband, Dennis Higginson, prior to his induction into the armed forces. Additional guests included their son, Gaylen Koyle, and Miss Connie Bradford. On Sunday, March 16, Mr. and Mrs. Higginson were further honored at a family dinner at the home of Lynn Carter in Payson. Places were laid for his parents, Mr, and Mrs. LeGrande Higginson; a brother and sister, Lynn and Kaye; and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Callaway of Santaquin; Mr. and Mrs. Dean Higginson, Mr. and Mrs. Don Stewart and families, all of Salt Lake City; and Mr. and Mrs. Bryce Wing of Spanish Fork.
