Lomax of Nephi, both well known for their civic work, were guest speakers at a meeting of the Beta Cul-tClub, held Monday evening at the home of Mrs. J.R. Coon. Wanda Huff, president, conducted the meeting and the club collect was read by Ida Reece. For her wedding the bride chose a gown in keeping with the colonial setting of St. Marys church. Made by her mother, it was fashioned of white dacron with pleating in the bodice, on the cuffs of the long sleeves and in a broad panel on the lower edge of the full length skirt. The same pleating was repeated in the small hat which held her veil of bridal illusion. A white orchid centered the bridal bouquet of gold and white of honor, wearing a full length gown of olive green; Miss Karen Manwill, Miss Carol Thomas, Miss Karen Elmer and Miss Marilyn Parrish, who wore street length dresses of gold and carried nosegays of gold, yellow and white chrysanthemums tied with green streamers. She was one of seven women heading a governors committee to make a survey and study of the status of women in Utah COOKS State Training School in American Fork. Each year members from throughout Utah County donate their services to give a lift to the children with a new hair cut or hair style, but this year in addition to the services, members will give three special Holiday parties. On October 28, a Halloween party was held for over 200 confined children, members of Affiliate Seven served punch, cookies and candy. The children especially seemed to enjoy a sing-alo- conducted ng by the members. Small crystal swans on OTANGE GLAZED SWEET TATOES PO- medium sweet potatoes cup boiling water 1 tsp salt 3 tbs butter 12 tbs grated orange peel 1 tbs orange juice 34 cup light or dark corn syrup 14 cup brown sugar 3 or 4 orange slices - cut in half Peel and half sweet potatoes. Add boiling water and salt. Simmer in covered pan until tender - about 15 minutes. Drain leaving about 14 cup liquid in pan. Dot potatoes with butter. Combine remaining ingredients, add to potatoes. Cook uncovered over low heat about 15 min. Baste frequently, turning 6 34 once. Serves Mr. and Mrs. Darwin T. Irwin, near Barstow, Calif., for about a year, assigned as an executive artillary officer. Previously, he attended OCS (Officers Training School) at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. Lt. Wilson was accompanied home by his wife, former Susan Johnston of Spanish Fork, and their two children. at member aboard the SS Enterprise which is the largest aircraft carrier in the world, now based at Alameda, Calif., with plans to go back overseas on couple Trade Technical School at Provo. Carl McClellan Receives Promotion New Years Day. Carl spent Mr. and Mrs. Ernest McClellan have received word that their son, Carl McClellan, has been promoted to Petty Officer 3rd Class, electonic technician, radar. Carl was one of 648 men in the entire Navy who was so promoted. He enlisted in the Navy in July, 1957. Mr. McClellan is a crew recent weekend Calif., with his Jeneal, and her husa at Lakewood, siste, band, Alton Reed, and a friend, Miss Jill Penrod of Elberta, 'who is attending beauty school on the coast. Mr. McClellan spent the past weekend in Payson with his parents. Seaman Carl Tanner Seaman Carl M. Tanner, USN, son of Mrs. Parry T. Grant of 709 Loafer St., Salem, Utah, is serving aboard the attack aircraft carrier USS Hancock in 20, the Gulf of Tonkin. Operating from Yankee Stathe carriers aircraft fly missions to both North and South Vietnam. The Hancock, oldest attack carrier in operation today, was commissioned in 1944. Though not as mammoth as todays modern carriers, Hancock has a crew of some 2,000 men, 900 more from the embarked air squadrons and 85 men from Carrier Division Nine Staff. McFarland Receives Medal Army Sergeant First Class James W. McFarland, 29, son of Mrs. Helen McFarland, 101 South First St., Lehighton, Pa., received the Army Commendation Medal Oct. 13 while serving with the 3rd Ordinance Battalion near Long Binh, Vietnam. Spec. McFarland earned the award for meritorious service as an ammunition platoon sergeant in the battalions 54th Ordnance Company. The Army Commendation Medal is awarded to personnel who while serving with the Army distinguish themselves by heroism, meritorious achievement or meritorious service. The medal was established by the Secretary of War on December 18, 1945. His wife, Osa, lives at 360 South 100 North, Salem, Utah.
