They who existed during the depression of the thirties found joy in just getting a job. People countries look forof war-toward to the end of war, leaving them with life. People with fatal diseases say: Give me health and Ill be contented in poverty. Yet our land is filled with a young generation who are the best fed, best clothed, have more conveniences' than any generation in history yet many are rebelling against all that is good by growing long, shaggy, s, dirty bodies, dirty minds, and then 21 so I could vote like a man and be able to get married without the consent of a guardian, but after 21 1 wanted to stop the clock and now that Im getting along to the time when certain little ones call me I have a tendency Grandpa, to slow things down by lying a little about my age, yet regardless of ,how old we are we all are searching for the illusive sbmething we call happiness or contentment. H. Berman Wolfe made the If you statement: following observe a really happy man, you will find him building a boat, writing a symphony, educating his son, growing double dahlias in his garden, or looking for dinosaur eggs in the Gobi Desert. He will not be searching for happiness as if it were a collar button that has rolled under the radiator. He will not be striving for it as if it were a goal in itself, nor will he be seeking for it among the of metawastes nebulous physics. To find happiness we must seek for it in a focus outside ourselves. In my limited experience I have found that the happiest Ive known havent necessarily been they who have captured a lions share of the worlds wealth, but they who have succeeded in doing one people thing well such as a painting well done, a poem well written a song well sung, a child well reared, a crop well grown, a sermon well delivered etc. etc. I suppose most of us think alike; we have a tendancy to say: Next year will be better. Ill be completely happy then. I think most of us are happy now and dont know it. The thing we should learn is to know sit-in- hate-in- s, love-in- s, storm- ing our major universities etc. etc. etc. They are weakening our way of life in the eyes of the world. I wish we had an exchange program with Castro of Cuba and give anyone who is unhappy with our American a taste of Communism. Way Ill bet 100 per cent of them would return home after a year with most of their ideas radically changed. Theyd be crying something like this: I never realized the blessings I had until they were taken away. Happiness is being an American not a welthy American or an American with power, just an American. May I quote another bit of wisdom from the pen of someone who was able to read the waste that can halt the progress of the young: The relentless passing of the seasons finds men quickly growing older. While age holds no remorse for those who have lived their lives in season, many of the disappointed men we see around us are they who have lived unseasonable lives. They have let spring pass by without using the season for its intended purpose, and then, realizing to late the error of neglect they have tried to do springs work in summer and summers work in Autumn, and winter has found them with no harvest. By youth, may it be remembered that there are none so hopelessly handicapped as i ' they who nave let it pass by the time for preparation and who go forth to live their lives out of season. Do you think the Hippies are happy, or do you think those birds who have made a shamble out of Columbia Uuiversity could be happy had they gotten their way. I think they are wasting the springtime of their lives. An elderly woman once said: 1 have never talked about my age because I have not wanted to be thought of in terms of years. I have tried to keep Thy mind young, my body healthy, my person neatly clothed; in other words, to keep pace with the passing of time without letting it age me. It is to strengthen you against that day when youth will desert you that I have made this confession. Each stage in life has its compensations. For youth it is pleasure, excitement, thrill for middle age it is growth, development, appreciation, to' the years beyond come mellowness, understanding, judge- -' ment, tolerance. By accepting each stage as it comes, looking neither back with regret nor ahead with apprehension one will never grow old. So do not check off your life a year at a time. Look on it as a stream flowing, flowingbetween banks growing richer, more THE PAYSON CHRONICLE Payton, Utah - 84651 fruitful, more peaceful more beautiful as it widens. It seems to be a matter of Doctors tell us that if we talk about being sick we are likely to be sick. Where then are the doctors who should be telling us that if we talk about and think about being old we shall be old? I cannot admittedly halt the procession of events or stay the hand of death. But do I have to rush out to meet the enemy and shriek to him that he may as well smother me now as later? Dont keep reminding people of the years creeping on them. What of it? I was set down in what I conhere, willy-nill- y, sider to be a pretty nice world. I like it. I enjoy working in it, seeing all I can of it. And I dont want to be handicapped by thinking Ive got just so Thursday, June 6, 1968 Eat - BEEF f- FATHERS DAY ; ; many years in which to do it. So, if you ever ask me how If old I am, I shall reply, you dont mind my saying so, its none of your business. My column may be a little confusing as to what Im trying to say, so let me conclude by putting it briefly: Enjoy life at whatever age you are and if you cant go to sleep at night by counting sheep, count your blessings. i remember Your best deal in dry cleaning Ladies MLNEBO DRYCLEANERS We clean almost anything Drapes, Slip Covers, Coats and all Clothing.
