Some badly needed changes are being made on the Uinta National Forest in Payson Canyon according to Ranger Harold E. Laird. At Payson Lakes Campground, the old comfort station which was built during the CC era is being replaced with a new modern flush type unit. There will be two water closets and a wash basin in each side. This type comfort station can be more easily kept clean and has less odor. This type facility will greatly enhance the campground and will provide a facility which everyone can be proud of. With the heavy use in this area, clean, well kept, comfort stations are a welcomed and much needed addition of facilities available at Payson Lakes. THe widely publicized Nebo Loop Road is also being repaired by F orest Service crews. This road is a very scenic drive and receives heavy use. Heavy use in early spring has caused some very rough spots in the road. Improvements have been needed on this road for many years. When the road was originally constructed, the traffic was not too heavy. As more and more people began to visit the forest, the growing pains of a narrow rough road were soon felt. The road was oiled to facilitate traffic but there were not sufficient funds to construct a wider road of lay a good road base. As the years passed and with increased use, the base material became ithinner allowing holes, washboards, and sections of the oiled surface to break up. These spots are now being dug up, and a heavy layer gravel base is being layfor oiling, er!, in preparation which will be completed in the near future. With the large numbers of people using this area, many things are reported lost to the Recreation Assistant at Payson Guard Station. Some of these items are found and returned. One of the most interesting things to be found this year in this area was a Greyhound. No, this wasnt a bus, this was a dog. If you find something, or lose something, please contact the Nephi Office of the Forest Service. Perhaps we If by can be of assistance. chance you have lost a Greyhound, the Forest Office can be of the CH-4- 7 Chinook, a dual engine, dual rotor helicopter. The Chinook is a large cargo helicopter capable of carrying 35 fully equipped American troops or 40 Republic of Viet Nam troops. W O Bradford is now assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division in Viet Nam. After spending 30 dais in Payson with his wife, JoAnne, and their two small sons, Jeffery and Scott, Leon left August 28 for one year combat duty in Viet Nam. Leons mother is Mrs. Leona W. Bradford of Sp. Fork Utah and JoAnnes parents are Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Peterson of Payson. Both of their parents traveled to Alabama for Leons graduation in June, attending the Graduation Ball and other Social Events. Leon Bradford Finances Needed For Memorial Pond Fund One more call is being made to the public for contributions to finish paying for the pond project in the park. A total of $567.14 has been contributed. A total of $669.34 is the cost of the job. Marerials alone were purchased. All labor was volunteer. to pay off all bills is the following amount: $102.20. A box will be located at the Needed entrance to the Flower-A- rt Show in the old Junior High School building during the coming celebration. Small donations from many people will pay this off.
