Show Valley Music Hall to Present Carnival Starting Sept. 1 1 Valiev Music presents Musical, Hall proudh Americas Magical ! Local Girls This Theater-m-the-Roun- mem Musical d. of the Midway is utterly festive from first to last, mixing moods brilliantly from the Bravura glitter of the Big Top to the enchanting freshness of a little French waif confiding her loneliness to puppets and finding love in return. It is unashamedly romantic but the spell it weaves kept sophisticated New Yorkers filling the theater for 21 months and blistering their palms in affectionate appreciation of career Joce of the Carnival troupe constitute an ideal foil for the appearance of the wistful, dreaming Lili. Walter Kerr, lamed critic for the New York Herald Tribune said of this play: Carnival captures the quality of magic. It is frankly sentimental, at times perilously so, but always some stroke of imaginative brilliance lifts it beyond any danger its charm, warmth and humor, abetted by the colorful background, zestful dances and wonderful musical score floods the stage and the audience with irrepressible spirits n since 1795. Mrs. Douglas Davis and children, Douglas B., Lydia, Wendy, Eric, Janet and Darian keep smiling even though a flat tire kept them meeting school's final registration deadline. FLAT Perils Of Mrs. Davis School started in NeboSchool District Monday, August 23. It was 8:50 a.m. and Mrs. Douglas Davis was stranded on a lonely road between Sp. Fork and Payson. How to get six children to Payson and all of them enrolled in school by 9 oclock was her problem. Up to now the lives of Staff Sergeant and Mrs. Douglas Davis has been one of togeand fascination for therness they have been in the military for 15 years. The Daviss were both born in Payson. The Sergeant is the son of Mr. and Mrs. George H. Davis and the Sergeants wife, Mrs. Barbara Davis, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Walton. Following their marriage on May 21, 1952, the Sgt. was to Austin, Texas, assigned where he held the rank of 2nd Class in the U.S. Air Force. Three months later they went to England and in May of 1963 they attended the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth of England. When their son was two months old, they toured Europe. They returned to Hill Field in Ogden Utah for two years. A daughter, Lydia, who is 11 now, was born to them. In Sept, of 1957 they went to the Phillipine Islands and Wendy, another daughter, was born to them in Pay-so- n. Douglas, Lydia and Wendy toured the Phillipines and Hawaiian Islands for two months. A son, Eric, was born to them. Later they went to Hong Kong. They were transferred to Moses Lake in Washington State. Two exciting things happened there. Janet was born and they visited the Worlds Fair, and then it was back to Payson for mother and children to await an assignment in Japan. A son, Darian, joined the happy family before they again were shipped overseas. The Sgt. was assigned to Tokyo, Japan. It was there that they again happened to be in the right place at the right time, said Barbara for they saw the 1964 Winter Olympics in Japan. A little blonde daughter, Christine, joined the family of Americans abroad. They returned to the United States for an assignment to Great Falls, Montana. Recently Sgt. Davis received an assignment at the Brigham Young Un- i A weekly newspaper established in 1888, published every Thursday and entered as Second Class matter at the Post Office in Payson, Utah - 84651, under act of March 8, 1879. As a group, we were able to visit 15 countries, each one adding to our trip because they were all very different. We were able to go behind the Iron Curtain on three occasions: Bohinj Yugoslavia; Budapest, Hungary; and East Berlin. There seemed to be a distinctive difference in the atmosphere in these countries, especially in Budapest and East Berlin. After seeing the wall in East Berlin, we were very appreciative of our free country. Our trip varied from the beautiful sights of the large cities of Paris, Rome and London to the smaller places of Rudeshiem, Germany, with its street dancing; Engelberg, Switzerland, in the middle of the Swiss Alps; Bohinj Yugoslavia, with our hotel at the top of a ski mountain; Geilo, Norway, with its beautiful countryside; and many others. Along the cultural side, we were able to see the opera Carmen in Paris in their beautiful opera house; the opera held in some of the old Roman ruins; chamber music at Salzburg, Austria; Charlie Girl, a musical comedy in London; Swan Lake Ballet in London; Worthington in Holland, Elder Lane Elmer in Austria, and Elder Dan Lafferty in Scotland. It was rather interesting to note that there were more of the mod fahsions in the Scandinavian countries rather than in London, (with the exception of Carnaby Street.) It seemed that mini skirts were very the popular in these areas. On August 15 we left Scotland to return to Salt Lake City, If our calculations are correct, we traveled some 22, 000 miles, including air miles. There were 37 on the trip and Shakespeares Alls Well That Ends Well in the Shakespeare Theater at Strafford Upon Avon, just to mention a few. The weeks seemed to passby so quickly, the only way we could tell a week had gone by was that every Sunday we held our church meetings. We met with saints in France, Austria, Germany and Scotland. When we couldnt find a ward or branch of the church, we held our own meetings. We were also able to visit the grounds of the Swiss Temple and the LondonTemple. We traveled by bus for the first 38 days. We covered approximately 7,347 miles. While traveleing by bus, we were able to see not only the main cities, but also the beautiful countrysides. While in each country we used many modes of transportael tion, such as: rail, cable car, train, boat, plane, subway, tram, and bus. We also found in our travels that the world is very small.
