Show Patriotic Services Held in West Ward Mrs. Reed Page Swiming Team Downed Again Wins June Golf Leg Mrs. Reed Page was named winner of the June leg of summer play at Ladies Day tourney and u n c h e o n held Thursday, luy G, at Gladstan Golf Course. Weekly winners were announced as follows: June 1st, Mrs. Roed Page; June 8, Mrs. W. R. Courtney; June 15, Mrs. Paul Benner; June 22, Mrs. Reed Page, June 29, Mrs. Wallace Brown. A group of 20 ladies attended the event, with luncheon served under direction of Mrs. Howard Stevens. She was assisted by Mrs. Ronald Warr, Mrs. Ralph Daniels, Mrs. Harry Hardman, Mrs. M. L. Coburn and Mrs. Grant Johnson. Mrs. Johnson, president, directed a brief business meeting. A learn from the Gladstan Golf Association lost to a team from Meadow Brook Club in a game played Friday, July 7. Going from Payson to the Salt Lake club and participating in the game were Mrs. Lavell Brook, Mis. Richard Nelson, Mrs. Don Houser, Mrs. Paul Benner, Mrs. Blanche Wilson, Mrs. Reed Page and Mrs. Grant John1 son. - Garden Club Garden Club, and Mr. and Mrs. LaVar Clayson, caretakers The club has painted the fence at the corner lot north of the Park on Main Street, commonly known as the library corner for future building and at this site have installed four more sections of fence. Petunias, zinnias and chrysantheumus have been planted here. A tour of local gardens is being planned and will be announced later. The Payson City Swimming team has suffered defeat three times in the last two weeks when pitted against older and more experienced teams. Tuesday, June 27, Payson lost to Riverside with a score of 542 to 398. Monday, July 3, Springville took over with a 535 to 260 score and Saturday, July 7, Scera (Orem) defeated Pay-s546 to 356. Scera was last years state champion swimming team. Saturday, July 15, Payson will travel to Provo for an early morning swim meet. It will begin at 7 a.m. with the public invited free of charge. on Winners of The Scotch Foursome Scotch foursome winners at Glidstan Golf Course Sunday afternoon were Don Houser and low net Mrs. Bryce Jones scores; Mrs. Howard Stevens and Grant Johnson, low gross scores. Well, after a few observations from here at our house, this is what summer means to us. Summer is when the day siarts rather cool and invigorating and towards afternoon gets muggy and sticky and everyone starts looking for a cold drink or a swimming pool. Summer is a kitchen that never seems to get put in order for any length of time because Patriotic Services presented by the West Ward Guide Patrol under the direction of Mrs. Lu Jean 'Wilhamson and Mrs. Mary Harris were held Sunday morning at the West Ward in conjunction with the Sunday School. The program was as follows: Posting of the colors by the color guard, Kenneth Erikson, David Wignall and Terry Shepherd, Leader Jimmie Hiatt, Pledge of Allegiance. Mrs. Mary Harris read the poem Hurrah for the Flag and gave a short talk entitled Respect for our flag. Songs by audience, America and The Star Spangled Banner led by Donna Seat and accompanied by Suzanne Nay. Retiring of colors. Prayer, Kenneth Erickson. Mac B. Jones - In his new post, Jones will head up the Training and De- velopment department for the worlds largest banks Southern California Division. He joined the bank in 1955 and was immeiiately selected for an advanced management training program. He was promoted to assistant cashier in 1958 and moved up to assistant vice president in 1964. For the past two years he has been district administrator for all of the banks branches in Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties in Southern California. His parents Mr. and Mrs. A.D. Jones live at 788 South Fifth East in Payson. Jones and his wife Rita and their three children live at 23 506 Aetna Avenue in Woodland Hills, California. theres always somebody in there eating. Summer is a star studded PAYSON CHRONICLE THE Melvin Hurst Hurt In Tractor Mishap - Payson, Utah 8465 Thursday, July 13, 1967 1 1 News of Servicemen WEST MOUNTAIN Fifteen-year-o- ld Melvin Hurst, son of Mr. and Mrs. Miles Hurst of A2c Payson, escaped serious injury this morning when a tractor ran over his left leg while he was working in a field hauling hay. The youth had just shifted gears for the driver of the tractor, when the drivers foot slipped off the clutch, and the tractor leaped forward, knocking the victim down and running over his leg. The youth was standing in front of the left rear wheel of the tractor when the mishap occurred. The accident happened about 10 a.m. on the Kenneth Meredith farm in West Mountain. Melvin suffered chip fractures of the left foot and was being held at the Payson Hospital for treatment and observation. He returned home Sat. afternoon with a cast to his knee. George Muniz UJS. Air Force Airman Second Class George L. Muniz, whose mother is Mrs. Charlotta G. Martinez of 682 W. Fourth N, Payson, Utah, has been graduated at Fort Monmouth, N.J, from a training course for electronics specialists. Airman Muniz, a graduate of Payson High School, attended Fullerton (Calif.) J u n i o r College. His father is Simon J. Muniz of Cortez, Colo. Michael Harris Word has been received by Mrs. Gene Phipps that her son, Michael Harris, stationed in Viet-Nahas received a promotion in rank to Specialist 4. He has been presented with the Combat Air Assault Medal requiring 25 combat air assents from the helicopters of the First Air Cav. Division. He also earned the Combat Infantry Badge for duties accomplished in Viet-NaMichael is now stationed with a Compnay 25 Cav., 1st Air Cav. Div., which is now taking part in operation Pershing in the Bong Son Plains. He has been in Viet Nam since Feb. of this year. m, E-- m. - Beautification Eldon Andrus.
