Liberace has been greeted throughout his world-wid- e tours by sellout audiences and honored by a Royal Command Performance before Queen Elizabeth. The pianist presents a brightly varied evening of entertainment inwhich he sings, dances, jokes, and demonstrates a full range of piano moods. The piano virtuoso made his concert debut at 11 and performed with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at 16. He hopes to return to television soon. It is unlikely, however, that such a return would keep him from concert stage. In the past three years away from the medium which first brought him to the attention of a decade of devoted fans, he has traveled extensively 11 months of each year, extending the boundaries of his popularity to include the world. Liberace shares with fellow Polish pianist, Paderewski, the singular honor of being the only concert artist to fill Madison Square Garden. Tickets for this acclaimed production of musical entertainment may be obtained by mail to Valley Music Hall, P.O. Box 222, North Salt Lake. They may also be purchased at the following convenient locations; Castletons, Z.C.M.I, the drive up window located at 13th South and Main or Area representatives. Tennessee Ernie Ford, who popularized religious music, will bring his show to Valley Music Hall April 11 through April 16, with a special matinee performance on Saturday April 16 at 2:15 p.m. Against all odds Ern fought the battle fur the placement of hymns and spirituals on television. When he first made the decision tit accept an offer to do network television, Ern told the executives that he would have to be allowed to sing a religious song at the close of each program. Because the networks regulated this type of music to churches there was plenty of negative talk, and Ern almost lost his show, but he stuck to his principles and finally won his point. As a result of this fight you hear hymn and spiritual music on many, many shows presently, and these songs, along with every other type he sings, have made Ernie Ford a household word today. By way of proving how right he was when he insisted that religious music was music to be enjoyed no matter where or when, Mr. Ford is listed as the biggest seller of this type of music in the world today. Tickets for the Tennessee Ernie Ford Show are selling very rapidly. Tickets for the Tennessee Ernie Ford Show are available by mail to Valley Music Hall, P.O. Box 222, North Salt Lake. LAURENCE J. BURTON I heard a story the other day of a letter to the editor of a newspaper, which I think makes apolnt regarding the pinch the average person is feeling from the rising cost of living. The MEAT letter reads: 465-31- 27 Dear Sir.: While the Great Society is screaming about a steel price increase ruining the economy, look at what has happened in the last 14 months. With the interest growing throughout the state, observes Ricks, it is evident that people (and especially those in Utah County) are incensed by the magazine and motion picture interests to fight this in court. Their desire to make a profit at the expense of our children is greater than some of us had supposed. We are frankly pleased that the issue will come to trial soon, he said. According to the letter, the council feels that various communities throughout the state are contemplating the adoption of an ordinance similar Provos because to it promises to bring about an improvement in magazine and movies without setting up a censorship board. The letter points out that i i I council members were told recently by a TV man: If nothing is done to reverse the trend, offensive movies that appear in our theaters today will be flooding into our homes through television two years from now. Two purposes of the letter are to clarify the issue which has been muddied by recent statements of the American Civil Liberties Union, and to seek financial aid with which the council can carry out a sound public education program, Ricks concluded. See him! self-adjusti- ck Growers were reminded today that April 15th is the last day for filing applications to take part in the 1966 feed grain program. Claude Hunting, Chairman, Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation County Committee, points out that only growers who participate in the program will be eligible lor price support on their 1966 crops of corn, barley, and grain sorghums. As last year, the support is made available through loans, purchases, and price -- support payments. Besides qualifying for rt loans, purchases, and payments, the participating grower also earns a diversion payment for shifting part of his feed grain base to a conserving use; the payment does not apply to the first diversion except on farms with small rt bases. The payments may be earned on the projected production from an acreage up to 50 per cent of the total feed grain base for the farm by planting one or more of the feed grains corn, grain sorghums, or barley, or by planting soybeans in lieu of a feed grain. Through March 25, 1966, there have been 164 growers in the County sign up to divert 2,305 acres for payment under the 1966 feed grain program. Department of Agriculture officials are stressing the continued need for full participation in the 1966 feed grain program. Feed grain stocks remain more than sufficient. Feed grain program applications may be filed at the AS CS county office any day, Monday through Friday. Office hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00p.m. Signup deadline is Friday, April 15th.
