Show BY RUBY MEREDITH 1965 TWIST A Sikorsky ROTOPROP, designed to provide either helicopter tail rotor service (left) or rotate 90 for high speed propulsion (right) has been successfully flown on a helicopter. In helicopter flight it serves as a traditional tail rotor to counteract main rotor torque; in high speed flight the ROTOPROP provides extra compound helithrust as a pusher propeller. It is planned as a feature of the copter by Sikorsky for the Armys Advanced Aerial Fire Support System.
