DAYS OF FUN AND ACTIVITY FOR CATTLEMENS SUMMER CONVENTION More than 500 Utah cattlemen and their ladies are expected to attend the annual Utah State Cattlemens Association summer convention, August 13 and 14, in Beaver County. Arrangements for hosting the convention have been completed by the Beaver County Cattlemens Association under direction of Ralph Pearson, Miners-villpresident, and Mrs. June Pearson, who is spearheading organization of a county unit of the CowBelles. e, Entertainment, relaxation and informative tours have been programmed for the two days. Registration is set for Friday, Aug. 13, in the Community Center at Beaver, and will be continued Saturday morning at the Chuckwagon Breakfast in Milford. Fridays activities will intrude on your own and guided tours of the Beaver Canyon area, visits to guzzlers, water storage areas for cattle where there are no streams or springs; visiting, golfing on Beaver's new municipal golf course, fishing the Beaver Creek or Minersville Reservoir; or just whatever the cattlemen and CowBelles want to State Association committees and the executive committee will meet at 7 p. m. Friday to discuss progress of the association and its members during the past year, and plans for the coming years activities. A dance has been scheduled for 9 p. m. in the National Guard Armory at Beaver, with H. L. Hy ToUey of Milford in charge of special refreshments. Saturdays activities will start with a chuckwagon breakfast, 6 to 9 a. m., in Milford, hosted by the Milford Lions Club and cattleman Leo Mayer. The game. Advancement ceremonies were conducted by leaders of the younger groups of girls, the Gaynotes, the Firelights, and the young girls to enter the program for the first time, the The Merrihands were the graduating girls who gave special talks. They were: Karen Maurin, Karla Heelis, Debra Jarvis, Marlene Finch and Brenda Kaletta. Scrolls were presented to the Merrihands by President LeBaron, and the girls sang their ts. Special speaker for the event was Sister Beulah Bradley, who spoke on The Light of the Gospel and highlighted her talk by the use of a miniature home which she lighted electrically. The girls, leaders and mothers later enjoyed games and light menu will include the traditional hot cakes, bacon or ham and eggs, coffee and milk, with everyone assured of "all they can eat, according to Mr. Mayer. About 9 a. m. the convention-er-s will board special busses for a tour of the South Milford farming and dairy area, with stops at pasture, reseeding and weed control areas, and a visit to the Russel Mayer potato storage pit where movies and slides will be shown. These will include views of the West Desert range, the Desert Range Experiment Station range grass and reseeding programs, special pasture programs, etc. At 1 p. m. a pit barbecue dinner will be served at Minersville, and the group will visit the Minersville Cooperative Dairy Barn. To complete the tour, stops will be made at the Yardley pasture in Greenville; modern haying programs, fertilizer trial plots at the Wells Farrer ranch, and a visit to the Clarence Rollins range program on the North Divide near Beaver. Bob Nowers, Beaver, is registration chairman, and all requests for motel or hotel reservations shuold be addressed to him. Captain Della Hudson conducted and led the pledge of allegiance to the American flag and the special pledge to the Utah State flag. The Singing Mothers sang, Those Pioneers conducted by Sister Ida Greenhalgh, with Sister Verb Francom accompanist. Harmonica duets were played by Daughters of the Pioneers, Lizzie Greenhalgh, and Emma Wall; two original pioneer poems were read by Daughter Beulah Bradley; A resume of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers Lessons was presented by Floris Broadbent by way of pioneer stories.
