NOVEMBER 10. 1960 Pay:or. history In connection with National Education Week, the office of the Nebo Education Association should like to take this opportunity to express appreciation for our American Education system. The Nebo Education Association is a service organization affiliated with the Utah Education Association and the National Education Association. It is supported entirely by voluntary dues from teachers and administrators affiliated with the Nebo School District. The association is guided this year by the following executive officers: Franklin Payson, president; Ralph E. Rigby, Spanish Fork, 1st vice president; Grant Clyde, Springville, 2nd vice president; J. Rulon Nelson, Spanish Fork, 3rd vice president; and Diane Dayton, Payson, secretary. In addition, each building in the district elects a faculty representative. These faculty representatives meet at least once a month and are the legislative body of the local 550 students enrolled in schools, teachers listed Payson Public Schools There are enrolled this season in the public schools of this city 550 pupils, these being taught in eight departments of which the following are the names of the teachers with grade- of each department: D. H. Christensen, Grammer. Miss Ida Coombs, Grammar John L. Finlayson, Intermediate. Miss Elmina a Wilson, Primary. Mills Matilda March, Pri- mary. Miss Laura Miles, Primary. Miss Alcesta Lewis, Primary. Mrs. L. Dalton, Intermedi- ate. The first four departments are taught in the Central School building and the others each in a ward or district school house. The dimensions of the Central building, which is situated on a pleasing elevation on Main Street, a few minutes walk from the business centre of town, are as follows: Height from foundation to top of steeple 75 feet; breadth and length (square) each 52 feet; size of four large study and recitation rooms, two on first floor and two on second floor, feet. Two each 23 by 34 large stairways lead also to three smaller cloake and teachers rooms. An office on the first floor, 12 by 15 feet square, contains an excellent library and is used for teachers and trustees meetings. Just before the close of school last season, the pupils appointed a committee of three from their own body to take up a collection for the purchase of a large American Flag. The necessary funds were raised in one day by contributions from the pupils and a week or two after the stars and stripes floated proudly on the flagstaff which was raised from the steeple, a height of ninety feef from the ground. The Presbyterian School and Mission This educational and religious institution is now in its thirteenth year in this city, and was never in a more flourishing condition. National Velvet' NICKEL Mrs. C. E. Sullivan is principal, being assisted in the various departments by her daughter, Miss Carrie B. Sullivan, and Miss Sarah Mileing. The enrollment and average attendance of students is considered over one hundred. The Presbyterian mission is conducted under the pastorage of Rev. A. C. Todd, and has a fair membership. Iliff Academy and M. E. Church This institution of learning is also situated on one of the main blocks in the very heart of the city. While the church has practically no member-hiexcept the pastor, Rev. R. T. Smith, and his aids, in the school line who have recently come to Payson, the school has a fair attendance, near a hundred names being enrolled. The curriculum is very complete and the school of music under the direcor. ship of Mrs. R. T. Smith and Mrs. Prof. Bradford, is well patronized. Besides the three named, Prof. G. H. Bradford and Prof. Thos. Scott and wife complete the school faculty. A reading room and school library is located in the basement of the building for the use and convenience of the pupils. pur-cos- PTA sets Informative evening The previously announced December P.T.A. meeting to be held jointly with the Junior High School has been postponed until Jan. Cleon Skousen will be the featured speaker at this later date. He was the scheduled speaker to address the December meeting but other commitments made it necessary that he postpone this engagement until the later date. Therefore, the Peteet-nee-t P.T.A. has moved its regularly scheduled January meeting up to November. Parents Informative The Evening program will be held Wednesday, Nov. 16, at 8:00 p. m.. in the Peteetneet School auditorium. Principal Jess Peterson and the teachers urge all parents to attend this meeting. Issues to be discussed this evening are of vital interest to all parents. Two of the schools grades will furnish music to complete the program. The meeting will be under the direction of P.T.A. President Mrs. Lavar Noon. NOTICE FOR BIDS The Board of Education of Nebo School District will receive bids to furnish approximately 600 gallons of lubricating oil, in 50 gallon drums, for use in district automotive equipment, f.o.b. Payson Bus Shop. Oil must be of first grade quality meeting S.A.E. Group G IV specifications and government tests as specified in Supplement I. The Nebo Education Association should like to express appreciation for the efforts of the legislators, Nebo School Board and the public to improve financial and educational conditions in this area. The Association believes that the general welfare of the child is the most important function of our school system. During this, the observance of National Education Week, the Nebo Education Association wishes to extend its pledge to work for better education for all. Mr. MillerTias made his home with his brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Miller, West Utah Ave., the past four years. Born Dec. 5, 1903, in Goshen, he was a son of Rudolph and Annie Elizabeth Garbett Miller. He did not marry. Mr. Miller was a member of the LDS church. He was educated in the schools at Eureka, where he was employed at Tintic Standard Mine for three years, later moving to Butte, Montana, where he was employed in the mines for a period of 33 years. His only survivor is his brother, Charles. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 1 p.m., at the West ward church, under direction of Bishop Rex Hiatt. Friends may call at the Rigby Mortuary Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday prior to services. Burial will be in Payson City Cemetery.
