Nixon, Henry Cabbott Lodge and Governor George D Clyde heading the Republican ticket carried nearly all of the other GOP candidates to victory in Tuesdays election. Sterling Jones and F. Rulon Nichols, Republican candidates for County commissioner, were winners in their bid for election. With all of the 128 districts in the county reporting, the unoffical tabulation gives Mr. Jones 21215 and 20953 for Marcellus Nielson in the race for four-yea- r commissioner. In the two-yerace, Mr. Nichols won the election 21112 votes to 21037 for Dave Greenwood. In the two school board elections in the Nebo School District, both in the south end, S. Roland Lindsay defeated incumbent Floyd Harmer for a four year term on the board. Mr. Lindsay polled 1081 votes to 1049 for Mr. Harmer. Alfonzo Kester, Santaquin, was given a four year term on the Nebo School Board by voters in Ward 5, composed of Spring Lake, Santaquin, Genola, Goshen and Elberta. Mr. Kester received 512 votes, his opponents Carroll Davis of Genola received 458, and Carl A. Patten, incumbent member, of Elberta, was given 220 votes. 1960 liDin! woods Payson Highs Lions held the Region 5 championship for the second straight year. Co; ch Jim Durrants tough blocking and tackling crew defeated Carbon Friday afternoon to win the crown and a spot in the state Class A semifinals. The Payson win also killed off whatever hopes the Provo High Bulldogs may have for winning the title. Provo kept its hopes lingering with a win over Spring ville on Howafternoon. Thursday ever, the hopes went flying n out the window with the win. 'Ihe battling Lions, will now play the winner of the quarterfinal game in a couple of weeks. East and Davis will play their quarterfinal fame next week. Payson scored its winning touchdown in the second quarter. It was set up by Jim gallop to tne Kropfs line. Carbon three-yar- d Paul Thomas smashed across for the touchdown and then Kent Oborn crashed across for the extra point. Neither team had any real scoring chances after that. The bonds would be retired over a 22 year period. A plant site has already been purchased on which the sewer treatment plant will be constructed just nortwest of Payson. Civic Pride Involved The City of Payson is a community of strong people. Economically strong as well as civic and morally strong. Every other community surrounding Utah Lake which has a sewer, has now constructed a treatment plant except Payson. The people of Pay-soregardless of any legal compulsion, will want to stand with their neighbors to make Utah Lake a healthy and enjoyable body of water. Disposal Plants have now been constructed by Lehi, American Pleasant Grove, Fork, Orem, Provo, Springville and Spanish Fork. TitDr. Decker Earl Senator Roland Lindsay j I Revised Cost Estimates The Engineers estimate of Treatment Plant cost, submit ted to the City Council prior to the last bond election was very much on the liberal high side. The Engineer so advis ed the City Council. It was understood, however a n promised to the public, that the bonds would not be sold until the construction bids were taken and the required cost amount thus definitely de termined. The bonds voted by the City would be cancel! ed and not issued or sold This seems to have resulted in uncertaintl in the minds of many voters who feared the treatment plant construction would be completed at unnec essarily high cost. At the request of the pres ent City Council, the engineers have been asked to supply estimates of actual cost, with out adding a substantial centage for contingency and Thus the bond election now provides for in borrowing as $450,000 against the previous bond election which would have authorized $650,000. The City Council has been advised that the interest rate in each case will be substantially less when the bonds are offered for sale. p. safe-guar- d.
