Fox, District Director of the Internal Revenue Service, that under certain circumstances their children may still be claimed for Federal income tax purposes. And the children themselves may be entitled to refunds in whole or phrt of income , taxes withheld from their wages during their employment. The special exemption rule, Mr. Fox explained, applies to children who will still be under 19 years of age at the end of the year and to children who are e students, regardless of their age. Exemption may be claimed by the parents if they contribute more thani half the childs sup full-tim- port, regardless of the amount earned by the child. This new law was passed by Congress in 1954, Mr. Fox explained. Prior to 1954, no person earning $600 or more could be claimed as a dependent by another taxpawer. Inquiries received, however, indicate that many who are entitled to this benefit are not aware of it. And some parents continue to have their dependent children stop work before earning $600. Two years ago, Ray and Mr. Thomas planted about 300 acres of Crested wheat grass out on the ranch. I have followed the seeding with a lot of interest. The seed sprouted and came up good in the early spring of 1956. Then came the dry 56 summer and all of the small seedlings appeared dead. I felt pretty bad about it and I know Mr. Thomas did too. However, the snows of 1956 and the wet spring of 1957 have done wonders. The dead came back to life. Now there is a good stand and growth of Crested wheat grass. Management of the grass by Mr. Thomas is now needed to insure a continued production of valuable forage. Over use and wrong season use can do to this what it has done for so many others in Utah: stand deterioration and loss of production. But management, by taking half and leaving half, can insure continued production. Mr. David Pawelson is a pioneer of range seeding and good forage management in the Goshen area. It is a pleasure to go over his range and wheat grass pastures with him. He has an excellent young starting salary was $250 a month and the highest was $350. Early in July a male stenographer was employed at $417 a month, with additional offers as high as $500 a month for male stenographers. Opportunities for unskilled or partly trained office workers are not so plentiful as they were at the close of the war in Korea. The trend today is for increased competition for the better jobs and promotions following the probationary period of employment.
