Enforcement carries with it control. Thus one can see that every member of elected school boards would be subject to being served with a subpeoena and called back to Washington to defend his school budget before the appropriate rommittee of Congress. NEED EXISTS The federal control that will accompany federal aid makes it impressive that any such program be temporary in nature and have a definite cut-odate. My experience in Congress has convinced me that this program will not end but will be expanded unless some alternative is offered to take its place. The needs of Utahs schools will be just as great four or five years from now when the program wpuld expire. Unless an alternative is available, the only recourse other than continuing federal aid would be to cut education standards of the state. of Congressional THURSDAY, APRIL 11. 1957 va ine supero quality or lighter, muder i 86 Proof Old Crow has made it ff ALTERNATE Payson, Utah The Central Utah National Farm Loan Association and the The Central Utah and ranchers in this area, and Is Federal Land Bank of Berkley Farm Loan Association National is a co- one of seven such associations have awarded a $150 scholarship operative organization with 40 operating In the State of Utah. 1.0 Clyde Carlson of Heber, Utah, years of specialized experience RFD for outstanding scholastic achievement and Future Farmers of America work. Profile though not spectacular as the bombs, it is more devastating over large areas and certainly just as sure of getting the people in the area affected. It is not a nice thought, but it is a thought that foreseeing conservationists of our county have had and are doing something about. The week of April 7th to 13th has been declared as Conservation week in Utah by Governor Clyde. This has been done through the regular Conservation Week Program of the Utah State School of Farestry, Range, and Wildlife. This is being sponsored by a group of Student Conservationists, the Land use planners of tomorrow, as an added effort to call our attention to the conservation of the Natural resources which we have around us. Reuel Jacobson of Heber City was selected as the Conservation Rancher of the year by the students in charge of the program. This is a good time to take stock of the problems, resources, and action program of your farm and ranch program. If we, in the Soil Conservation Service, can be of help to you through your Nebo Soil Conservation District, let your supervisors know. One of the newest cooperators of the newest cooperators of the Nebo District is Verl S. Gardner from Salem. Verl came in the office one of those cold, rainy, snowy" days last week and we discussed a few of his problems. He plans on working the old farm into a new, producing unit, one that he can be proud of.This calls for, a revamped irrigation system with controls in the ditches and leveling of some pieces to get the most efficient use from the available water. Some of the fields will be changed to make a better cropping system These, possible. among other changes will help Verls farm take its place among the Conservation farms of the valley. The Supervisors of the District, and wives, held their annual dinner meeting on March 30th at Spanish Fork. Bemell Hansen was Master of Ceremonies, and was assisted by Roy Lyman, Reed Hansen, Bob Jensen and Carroll Davis. Guests included Soil Conservation Service personnel, the County Agent, Equipment manager, and the book keeper and their wives. It was an excellent dinner and a very progressive program. Special guests of the district were Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Spot-to- n of Genola. Tom was selected by the board of Supervisors as the Conservation farmer of the Year for 1957.
