Valentines Gift Giving to those wc-- love is a historic tradition on St. Valen- tines D3y. Where the tradition was born is a matter of scholarly dispute. Some claim that it originated in ancient Ra.ne where, cn the feast day for their gods Juno and Inuus, Romm gentlemen chose the ladies cf their fancy and entertained them with song and lavish banquets. Others say it began in England where February 14 was celebrated for the romantic notion that it was the day the Mr. birds chose for mating. And that tireless keeper-of-diariePepys, gave substance to theory by recording that, on the day named for St. Valentine, British gentlemen showered their ladies with gifts as tokens of their fondness. But more important than the source is the meaning of St. Valentines Day today. It is a day ruled by the heart, conmam-crate- d by the giving of gifts, and symbolized by a bright symmetrical heart. It is a happy day on which we think of our hearts and hopefully give. In recent years, it also has come to be the half-w:- .y mark in the Payson Heart Association's annual Heart Fund drive. This, we think, is most appropriate, for, with the Heart Fund, too, we think of our hearts and hopefully give. The Heart Fund supports the crusade conducted by the American Heart Association s, against the heart diseases through a program cf research, education and community service. When we think of affairs of the heart on St. Valentines Day, let us think of the Heart Fund, too. Here, truly, we can make a gift for the hearts of all those we love. two-da- y radio-phon- two-wa- prob-lem- now tt ALL KODAK CAMERA Model Lent) Economy Model s.
