Show The Soil Profile P ostmark - Payson By C. T. Lowe Vernal Twede Postmaster America honors its pres'derU in many ways, but during February we are reminded of tha r lives and service to their country as we observe anniversaries of two of our our greatest Washington and Lincoln On February 12 we observe the 148 anniversary of Abiaham Lincolns birth, and on February 22 we observe the 225 anniversary oi the birth of the father of our country George Washington. Ihe post office department pays tribute to our pres dents through the issuance of postage stamps bearing their likeness iFor example, on the lc stamp you will find the likeness ol Washington, and on the 4c stamp Imis the likeness of Lincoln portant historical events are also portrayed on our postage stamps. Next time you buy stamps, study the pictures of the men and events represented on them you will be viewing American history in the palm of your hand. Myth of Adolph Hitler Ever since the surrender of Germany in World War II there have been stories about the escape of Adolph Hitler and his alleged operations in other parts of the world. The myth of Hitlers being alive and living in the mountains of southeast Kentucky ended recently with the arrest by local postal inspectors of The Reverend W. H. Johnson," who has been receiving contributions since 1946 to foster an organization to dominate the world. Many of his letters to supporters were signed Adolph Hitler. A Call From Saint Peter Some few years ago the postmaster and other employees of the Payson Post Office were working late in the office and all at once there came a loud rap on the closed window. Who is it? called out the postmaster. Saint Peter came the rea moment all was very For ply. still inside the post office work room, but finally someone got up nerve enough to investigate. On opening the door we found it to be one one of our patrons with whom we were not very well acquainted but whose name was actually Saint Peter. What is more important to the American way of life than democracy?.. What neans more to ny of us than freedom? our What means prosperity, security, stability, a strong people, a strong nation and a peaceful existence. In MIDDLE EAST PLAN . . . Admiral Arthur Radford and Sec. Dulles tell House foreign affairs committee Pres. Elsenhowers program is designed to stop World War III before it starts. CONGRESSMAN W. A DAWSON REPORTS ORPHANS' AID . . . In'my one of the best laws ever passed by Congress was one approved in 1953 providing for the admission of 4000 alien orphans under 10 years of age for adoption by American citizens This quota has long been filled and now 4000 children who otherwise would be facing starvation in other lands are living in comfortable American homes NEW LEGISLATION . . . This week I introduced legislation to permit the admission for adoption in this country of 5000 more orphans under 10. I hope my bill is considered separately from d more extensive amendments to our immigration laws by President Eisenhower Attempts to make major changes in these laws are always controversial. I would hate to see relatively orphans admission act defeated by objections to other aspects of the Presidents recommendations. I think FACE TO FACE Mayor Robert Wagner of New York was wrong in refusing to extend the citys official welcome to King Ibn Saud of Saudi Arabia. When the head of an country comes to the United States to discuss his differences with the President I feel should be extended every courtesy. As the President point pro-pos- ... im-orta- nt ed out, differences between nations cannot be solved by the refusal to discuss them. NEED UNDERSTANDING . . . In this regard, I am reminded of the story of Charles Lamb who, while walking with a companion, I dont like that man. said Why, what hase he done? Its net what he has done. Its just that I dont know him, Lamb The same is often answered hue with nations. We must know and understand them, if we are to sove our differences Such a policy in no way conflicts with our determination to insist upon deeds not words in dealing with our antagonists. BUDGET CUTS It was good news that President Eisenhower intends to cooperate with Congress in trying to reduce the Federal' budget I for one believe sizeable reductions can be made, starting with the foreign aid proI was appalled to learn gram that most of the foreign aid funds appropriated for Iran have been used to build up a sprawling Iranian government bureaucrasy Our entire program of foreign and has left Iran with a government it cant pay for with its own revenues. This has cost the durU. S. taxpayers ing the past 10 years. This is what I am going to try to stop. ... $60-milli- THURSDAY.
