Applications for improved service are now being received at the telephone office in Spanish Fork. In order to provide the improved service that will insure the complete privacy of telephone calls, many new lines have been added in Santaquin and substantial additions to the dial switching equipment were made. Rates for the new service will be comparable with those in other similar areas throughout the state. They will, however; be slightly higher that the rates being paid for the present rural party line service. It is not intended that all customers will have a need for the higher class of service at this time. The new service offering will not apply to customers living in the Genola area. During 1956 the Mountain States Telephone Company spent Ronald Peart, 15, narrowly escaped death Friday morning and g gives his father thanks for his life. Credit is also giv-to a neighbor, Delos Tanner, and to the Payson Fire Depart-nen- t and the operators of the Payson Telephone exchange. Ronald was feeding stock from a stack of chopped hay. His father, Max Peart, and a brother, 12, were inside the bam milking the cows with electric milkers. Mr. Peart, for some reason, went outside the bam, saw the haystack had caved in, and immediately scouted about the barnyard and house looking for Ronald. Not finding the boy, he sent the younger son to get help from a neighbor and started to dig into the stack of 3 or 4 tons of hay. The boy was found some 20 minutes later, and revived hy the Payson Fire Department with use of the resusitator. Mario Cloward was released as Nebo Stake Quarterly Conference Payson Hish School Principal Archie Williams, speech and drama teacher at the High School, was named the new principal of the Payson Senior High School by the Board of Education Monday night. The board in their first meeting of the year elected William Broadbent of Santaquin as president and (Floyd Harmer, prominent Payson business man and former Payson Mayor, was sworn in as the new member. Dr, J. H. Ellsworth, who has been president of the board during the past year, retires as the Payson member. Educator for 26 Years Mr. Williams has been a teacher in the public schools for 26 years. Ross Barneyf 41, Dies At Home in Maryland Lt. Commander Ross Barney, the Navy Air Force, died 41, of Sunday after a sudden illness at his home, Lexington Park, Maryland. Born in Payson March 4, 1915, to James Corbet (Cob) and Inez Done Barney, he was educated in local schools and entered the navy as a young man, remaining to make military duty a lifetime career. He married Penny Dodd-so- n of Canada. k.
