Paula Brewer Spring City a change vote for Scott Matheson What in the world has been going on at our Capitol for the past 20 years while the conservative Republicans have had control of the House Senate and the governors office? This question came to mind as I read a letter signed by Cary Peterson (the Utah Commissioner of Agriculture) and Booth Wallentine (former Executive Secretary of the Farm Bureau) soliciting support for the ticket which stated “Note their pledge to get state government spending back in line with state revenues” I trust this quote to be accurate coming from two influential state leaders Twenty years of spending not in line with revenues Should we support a party that has this record? Their request seems absurd A change is 7 1 in the sales tax collections general fund monies would be required to pay the debt on the bonds leaving less money to pay for education The best part about living in a small community is our neighbors We know everyone Our social life used to be chasing after the ambulances and fire trucks because we knew the victims personally We’d stay after the fire truck left and help clean up and try to restore some type of order Now we sit at home and listen to our scanners so the trained volunteers can do their jobs without running into spectators I’ve been reminded how Gunnison Provider Clinics Kimberly Beck MD no on Initiative am writing to encourage Utah Citizens to oppose Initiative Though well meaning this initiative is dangerous to the state for the following reasons: Initiatives are an unwise way I development grid has been the underlying factor preserving the lifestyle that both residents and newcomers enjoy The large lot pattern laid out in passes he whole issue boils Vote style development? We believe the historic needed Think about it can we trust our finances with a governor who will stand up to the legislative branch to accomplish this pledge? Only if we vote for Scott Matheson ofOur ficials have claimed they are the cornerstones of fiscal control If that is the case then why do the authors of the letter claim the pledge is needed? If the elected officials come from the same cut of cloth do you think that this negligence will continue? We do! Again “get state government spending back in line with state revenues” should tell us there is a need to change the administrator one who will fight the opposition to eliminate this budgeting mode If Scott Matheson were elected he would stand up against the dominant Is it time legislative opposition that we look at the other side of the ticket to get someone who will not be of the same philosophy in adopting state budgets? Before you make the X governor just remember: for 20 years and still not spending on the same level as revenues Can we stand to be led by the one party system that talks of fiscal conservative leadership and then after 20 years is campaigning on this pledge? Respectfully Eldon Morley former state senator Palmyra and Ken Creer former Commissioner of Agriculture Springville NO to Amendment 3! Along with the ad campaign I feel this amendment goes too far The Utah State Constitution already defines marriage as “between a man and a woman” We do not need this amendment when the words are already in our state constitution Sickened to read 2 What do the words “subin part two As a citizen of Utah I want the words of our Constitution to be plain In my opinion anyone and everyone could make terpretations could mean to the rest of us So I make my first statement again: VOTE £JQ TO AMENDMENT 3! hisher Kris Anderson Centerfield stantially equal” mean? own interpretation of these words Then who knows what problems and costs these in of bear's destruction Our family is sickened after reading your newspaper article about the destruction of that bear Mr Bahlmann That bear had a right to live Kudos and soul and we feel good like when we think of a homemade cookie or a homemade quilt It wasn’t a problem bear Why kill it? Just for sport and the for ridding this congratulations planet of a “monster?” That bear wasn’t a monster Who is the real monster? Being a monster has nothing to do with size in this case I know the world is full of monsters who smile with glee and delight We see them all over in the media Didn’t that bear have a right to live? Yes You labeled the destruction of the bear as Pick the term that “harvesting” brings you the most comfort when explaining the act We all need to be careful to pick the right word in such a brutal world Homemade arrow soothes the a trail of It wasn’t a monster It was a bear Incidents like the one you so descriptively explained illustrates that man is the supreme problem on this planet This sport of baiting animals is inhumane and wrong Your photograph of the smiling hunter is a sad commentary on our “civilized” society I see similar pictures in too many newspapers and magazines It is just further evidence of a warped world bathed in bloodshed Man knows better! If someone used that tactic on you you would have cried thrill of following blood? “entrapment!” We cringe at human beheadings on the Internet but a photograph like yours of a dead bear and a smiling fellow is acceptable But better still stuff the bear and deco- rate your living room Dead things in living rooms really create a nice inviting ’’Bates Hotel Theme” It makes me sick To some it is man the great hunter at his best destined for the record books The words “Outsmart? and “fun” quoted from the hunter are terms the last man might say as he pushes the button of the final nuclear weapon that brings a close to our human race But what a thrill and rush!
