meeting Sept high school teacher Jack Rapier said automobiles are parked on both sides of Second West behind the high school stadium during events such as the fourth of July celebration and football games making a hazardous situation II there were an emergency it would be nearly impossible for an emergency vehicle to get near the stadium because of the thoroughfare the congested Rapier said pai king! creates People tend to ignore "No Parking" signs and it barricades are put up people just drive around them "I realize that this is an ongoing problem when there are special events at the stadium" remarked Mayor Kim Anderson "We need to find some solutions and rectify the situation” Several suggestions were made and Rapier will make an effort to implement some of the ideas over the next week "It is too late to do anything for the Snow College game this week but will have some plan of action in place by the next high school football game" said Ra- pier Parking lots are available for use and if attendees will pay attrition to additional signs posted the parking situation should improve Mayor Anderson suggested getting the word out early through the media about the changes in event parking "I'm sure that most of the citizens will be cooperative and comply with the new rules” stated Anderson "With the additional signage traffic control volunteers and the presence of our local law en Sterling Town Notice of Sterling has a vacancy in the position of Mayor The unexpired term needs The Town to be filled until January 2006 We will be accepting applications Thursday Sept Oct 7 2004 23 2004 through from Thursday The Sterling Town Council will announce their decision at the regular town meeting to be held on Friday Oct 15 2004 at 8 pm at the Sterling Town Hall Anyone interested in this position may tact the Town Clerk Erica Blood at 9 con- 922 29M forcement the parking problems should improve" he added Daughters of Utah Pioneers (DUPj member Joyce Alder quested funding from the city for badly needed repairs to the Patten House The DUPhas $5400 that has been raised through grants and fundraisers but that amount does not meet the total cost needed for repairs “The most urgent need is for the roof to be sealed and treated before the bad weather" slated Alder “The cost for that is $700 but that is only one of the immediate needs” she said The labor for the window work is to be donated by Snow College Traditional Building Skills students in their window workshop to be held in January 2005 Even with the donated work and monies raised by the Manti DUP approximately $2500 more is needed The grant that was received may only be used for doors and windows so the other repairs and maintenance costs have to be covered by other funds “We would like to help" said Mayor Anderson “however there is not a line item in the budget to cover this type of expenditure” The council agreed that preserving the Patten House is money well spent but with the Manti woman wins state fair awards By tight budget it will be difficult to find the funds required for the repairs The DUP was commended for their hard work bringing the home from shambles to its cur- rent state of restoration The mayor assured the DUP that he would go over the budget with city administrator Bill Mickelson to see if any funds are available The city council adopted an ordinance increasing sales tax by 14 percent This ordinance will be submitted to the voters in Manti in the timetable required by law probably in November The perpetual care fee for the cemetery is set at $250 for a raised headstone and $150 for a flat headstone When a cemetery plot is purchased and the perpetual care fee charged the higher rate will be assessed at the time of the purchase However if a flat
