roping and Indian dancing were all part of the western experience put on by the Sanpete Child Abuse Prevention Team chaired by Kay Jensen and the Snow College Rodeo Club Other participants included the Happy Factory represented by Bruce Bone who handed out a handmade wooden toy to each and so on These kids were thrown to the and had guns handcuffed ground pointed at them Most were crying and scared to death They shouldn’t have been treated like criminals Some were drinking and that’s wrong but it should have been handled differently These officers wrote tickets and gave tests and they then let them go: Then they went to different houses the next day and gave tickets to the ones they had let go the night before They sent young girls home with olJer guys and told the guys to make sure the kids got home okay One boy blew a 2 - point stand up something Hecouldn’teven but they let him drive home with a If these kids so drunk were passenger and got tickets why then were they allowed to drive home with other kids in the car? Is that not against the law? These officers shou Id have taken these underage kids home don’t you think? Another thing that bothers us about the whole thing is that a few weeks before there was one of the SWAT Team members up there drinking with the same kids they were helpingarrest He was telling the kids they shouldn’t be partying yet he has partied with them before The only reason he wasn’ t there this night is because he had to participate in the bust What is wrong with this picture? Do you think these kids look up to these guys? No Not when some do the same thing They say alcohol leads to drugs Maybe for a few it does But we know most of these kids personally and they are not drug users It’" not a good idea for these young kids to drink but most often than not they will try it They should not have been treated the way they were It could have been handled a lot differently Goafter the real criminals!
