by Anita Lyons Staff riter Gunnison City needs a new librarian Gloria librarian for the past five years Worthington resigned last week “I want to be home before 6:00 pm every night of the week” Worthington commented Adjusting library hours isn’t the answer for Some of the heaviest usage of Worthington hours the library comes in the between 4 and 6 pm Often Worthington stays later keeping the library open fora patron A public library should serve the public by being open when the public- can come So she quit “You can believes Worthington just feel it You know when you need to be home” she changing the zoning for the area around the parcel “If we change the zone we need to do it w ith in mind” said councilman Brian a Jensen one of the dissenting votes Jensen and councilman Mark Pickett voted against locating the Post Office at that site They cited traffic safety concerns "Wecan discourage traffic from (low ing into the residential area by the way we allow the Post Office to place gave an update on how the Gunnison Valley Hospital was doing According to a handout Dyreng gave to council members the hospital isconsidering adding a new operating room to accommodate an orthopedic surgeon Dyreng stated that one of the problems the hospital has had in attracting an orthopedic surgeon has been the fact that the hospital only has one surgery room and one recovery room This expansion was part of a short list of growth plans included: Other needs on the short listed - The hospital currently Delivery rooms has 2 delivery rooms and averages 15 OB growth estipatients per day Conservative mates indicated a need for an additional delivery room and possibly an OB waning area Patient Rixmi HeatingCooling Currently all patient room temperatures are controlled by a central thermostat For patient comfort the hospital will investigate how to equip each patient room w ith a thermostat Patient Room four patients are required to share one bathroom The hospital would like to have each room have its own bathroom Dyreng also noted that Dr Keith Willmore w ill be opening his ow n office during the next month and that Therapy West w ill be opening its new' facility soon “The hospital serv ices an area much larger than Gunnison Valley The hospital is very sound financially” said Dyreng In other business discussed at the council meeting: Construction on the new sewer lagoons will begin very soon according to councilman Pickett “The draw ings are nearly completed and the project ought to be out forbidding very soon” he said City Manager Ray Limb said that he was working on a w ay to get the state to take out the Central LTtjh Correctional Facility inmates from the total population count He said that the count has been affecting the city’s numbers w hen it
