taken by the Gunnison City Council Mention was made of the city’s dissatisfaction with garbage service contracted through p County Lane Sanitation This week’s paper gave notice of their contract cancellation in July and bids being opened for a new contractor I have also had negative thoughts about their service especially when our garbage sits out on the street a few days and the weather and animals scatter the garbage all over the neighborhood Recently however I have learned about some of the other things the “garbage man” is called upon to do in the course of his work that gives me a greater appreciation for all that he puts up with too Monday June 2 when gathering ourtrash my husband’s personal medical records for the last ten years were accidentally picked up with the Sunday newspaper and thrown away These records contained lab results medication daily vital statistics changes and notations of physical changes that could pinpoint possible complications related to organ transplant rejection We discovered the book was missing late Tuesday Lucky for us the garbage truck had a mechanical breakdown shortly after our garbage was picked up on Monday and our garbage was still on the truck Repair parts for the garbage truck were unavailable locally so Mr Munk was required to make a special trip to Salt Lake to get them in order to get on with his work without more delay The truck was repaired and ready to go late Wednesday Later that night the search began The chore of locating the book was made easier because we sack all of our garbage We started doing this to keep our garbage from being scattered by the weather and the animals Wet garbage is collected in plastic grocery sacks and taken out daily to be put in a larger garbage bag All loose paper cans grass weeds tree limbs etc are also put in garbage bags The bags of garbage were found among all the other mire and muck The book was located sagely tucked between the newspapers clean and intact Had we not made the effort to bag our garbage Shawn Munk's efforts to locate the book might have been fruitless The idea of going through my own garbage let alone that of many other people turns my stomach I don ’t know how Shawn did it although he says this wasn’t the first time and it won’t evening After several frantic hours we located Shawn Munk and asked if there would beany possibility of finding the book There was only one way “to go through the garbage as it was emptied out of the truck at the country land fill— and that was IF that particular load was still on the truck be the last County Lane Sanitation will only be doing ourgarbage pickup a little while had known earlier longer I wish about some of the things that do to man” create problemsforthe“garbage perhaps I would have tried harder to make his job easier The old trite say- - Sanpete County Arrests June 8 1997 Male 25 of Kearns Utah was arrested in Mt Pleasant by the Mt Pleasant Police for possession of a dangerous weapon by
