the addition of a second store in Gunnison Utah The new pharmacy will be located inside Gunnison Thriftway and will go by the name Service Drug “We’ve been a family owned business since 1950” said Ward Killpack owner of Service Drug The Killpack family purchased the drug store in 1950 In 1972 Ward purchased the family business His son Roger has been assisting him since 1984 Brenda Nielson a Gunnison native will be the local pharmacist She and her husband Rory moved into a home on South Main She is a 1994 graduate of the University of Utah School of Pharmacology “Brenda’s a big reason we are here” said Killpack Service Drug will be open 10:00 a m - 7:00 pm Monday through Friday and 9:00 a m - 2:00 pm on Saturday But Killpack said the Saturday hours arc subject to change “It all depends on the customers shopping habits If we have to we may have extended hours on Saturday” he said Nielson emphasized that she will be available for medication consultation at any time She feels be dangerous to infants has Primary Children’s Medical Center scrambling for beds and treating numbers in its emergency department In December Primary Children’s emergency department saw 3729 patients breaking all previous records There were 500 children admitted to the hospital from the emergency department that month w hich is twice Most of the children the average seen in emergency and admitted to the hospital through emergency had respiratory infections Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is the culprit a common virus that causes a runny nose congestion and cough In adults and older children the virus causes a "cold” with mild in infants However symptoms younger than two years the disease can be serious enough to hospitalize the child Infants under three months of age and those w ho have chronic health problems tend to become sickest with RSV The virus is very contagious and is transmitted by contact with fluids from the nose mouth and eyes It can be spread from person to person by sharing the same dishes and by not washing hands after sneezing coughing or nose blowing and by coughing directly into a person’s face In most cases the illness can be treated with acetaminophen for ver a decongestant to decrease the runny nose or a medication to help the child breathe easier In the most serious cases the child must be hospitalized to receive oxygen and medications Doctors at Primary Children’s Medical Center have the following advice for preventing respiratory fections: Wash vour hands Frequent is the most effective handwashing way to prevent spread of communicable diseases The correct method is to apply soap to wet hands and secscrub hands vigorously for onds before rinsing Do not allow infants to play with toys that have been handled by ill children Wash your hands before holding an infant particularly if you have been in a public place or around people who are ill Keep your infant aw ay from places where they will have close contact with people who are ill such as movie theaters day care centers (if possible) and even church meetings and nurseries “Jumping Jacks” by Mason is a ballet for 14 dancers and is set to the music of Igor Stravinsky Mason is
