collecting rental fees from owners of planes stored at theSalinaGunnison Airport at least during the months when Salina is in charge of the airport's maintenance and upkeep was given at the last Salina City Council meeting As of now Salina and Gunnison cities take turns every other year in taking care of the airport property and snow removal with the change taking place in July of each year Rental for airplane storage has been talked about by Salina and was voted into effect last month According to Ronald Crane Salina councilman over the airport “the rental fee is a token amount charged so the taxpayers don’t have to subsidize the airport" He cited as an example that for years Salina would budget and pick up the expenses on everything at the airport including power bills which run around $175 to $200 a month He explained that it is not fair for the taxpayers to provide to the very few who store planes at the airport a free use of power for lights or heat or welding and inside an enclosed hangar that provides protection to the planes The rental amounts decided upon by the Salina Council would be $50 a plane for the large enclosed hangar $2500 a month to store planes in the hangar without the frontdoors and $1500 a month for tie downs begin Gunnison Mayor Bi uue said he was surprised that Salina would enact the rental fee without discussing it with Gunnison He said Uiat councilman Richard Dyreng had done some research that showed many of die airports have rental fees and it was his opinion that the fees of Salina were not out of line Blackham felt that this year they will have to live with Salina’s decision to charge rent but haven’t made a decision what to will do with next year The problem exists because Gunnison city has already appointed Richard Nay as their Airport Manager and therefore do not charge him rent because of the services he offers in that capacity Blackham felt they could discuss this with Salina but the discussion has not taken place as yet The Bellamy Bros have always presented a wide angle view of the world in their music encompassing characters and situations far beyond the standard collection of love songs of most contemporary albums Their work has always been as much a cultural statement as a style of music Their new MCA album Rebels Without Clue seems to have a sharper focus then previous albums centering around a theme of nostalgia but while the images may be specific and focused the overall view is still the big picture In other words the album is about time not just about a certain tic' And as always the feeling experienced by the characters in the Bellamys’ songs ring rue for anyone in any time The Bellamy Brothers description of their music is not surprising considering the variety of influences Howard an David Bellamy were exposed to as children of the ’50s and ’60s they grew up in the rural town of Darby FL and they still live 1 There are several more issues facing the Gunnison City council in the near f uture that will have a great impact on the area The first is die public meeting that will be announced soon to discuss the changes and revisions in the in Gunnison zoning ordinances Mayor Blackham explained that Kent has been in charge of Worthington this project and that he felt good about the progress the committee has made in cleaning up the ordinances presently being enforced in Gunnison There is still concern over the future of sanitary landfills in the valley and this issue will also be presented to the citizens not only in Gunnison but in all the neighboring communities A few options are being looked at w'ith interest being shown in a Valley landfill site with costs to maintain and monitor shared by the citizens that would use it Blackham is concerned about the tha1 w feasibility of a Regional Sewer t System dial would enlaige the three ponds that Gunnison owns and allow uiizcns m Centcrldd to buy into the system Presently the information is in the bands of the engineers who are refining the cos's Minor B lad ham said that there were a lot of bene! ns to tins md of thinking that has to be addressed costs The last lime the two councils met to discuss an port piublems was about a year ago In the past there have been proposals to appoint an airport Ik no d and airjtorl tranag’er but these piojmsuis hue died from lack of interest on the part tb city councils
