Show rv v f Thursday May 24 1984 Ogden Utah t i Cherilyn Melton before Garry Makeup artist Lori Henderson applies eye makeup to Ms Melton as the Makeover begins BryantStandard-Examine- r i Amateurs get a chance to look like models By JANE C BERRY Standard Examiner staff Rync Hazcn’s voice is confident professional and quick as an auctioneer's as he shoots the photographs “That's it that’s it that’s it” he says "Again Looking nice looking nice very-ver- y “Chin up looking good Now look serious Eyes open Beautiful !” The model on the stool swivels right swivels left smiles and frowns as Hazen's voice and the of the camera fill the studio But before the shutter ever snaps the model on the stool undergoes a metamorphosis She is transformed at the hands of a makeup artist and hair stylist into a woman who looks like she might step off the glossy cover of a fashion magazine This is not “My Fair Lady” It’s called Makeover and it’s brand new to Ogden “The thing we’re trying to do is let an ordinary person with no modeling experience have a taste of it” says Hazen owner of Hazen Photography who recently added Makeover to his line of portrait services click-whirr-click-w- He says Makeover has been done successfully by photographers in Salt Lake City and elsewhere The studio process takes about an hour and a half Hazen says and the entire package costs about $65 On a recent Wednesday afternoon Cherilyn Melton 24 Makeover A cosmetics saleswoman at Wein-stockshe says she needed a glam- ourous photograph — darker shades to make certain areas recede and lighter shades to high- underwent for light ’s Several shades of blusher eye shadow eye liner mascara and lipstick later Cherilyn’s face looked work Besides she says “I just wanted a good professional photograph tak- thin and glamorous After Roj Thurgood — style director for Stacey’s Salon and the State of Utah Hairdressing Association — flawless en” Hazen began with a “before” mug no makeup “I shot — head-o- n look like this” Ms don’t usually curled arranged and hair sprayed her hair Ms Melton changed into the black and white outfit she Melton says apologetically Then Lori Henderson Hazen’s makeup artist did her stuff “Someone coming in off the street usually doesn’t have enough makeup on (for a photograph)” Ms Henderson says “So they look washed out” She used four kinds of foundation brought for the photos Then Hazen was ready to shoot “There’s a lot of consulting to make this all come together” says Ms Henderson She says she Hazen and the hair stylist work with the client in ad I vance to select colors mood backdrop and what type image the client wants to project “We’re really trying to offer something Ogden has never seen before — something besides sitting there in front of a scene of trees and looking cute” Thurgood says Hazen says he has not done Makeover on any men but he would be willing to “That's one thing we’d like to explore” he says explaining that the makeup would be toned down to resemble what male models wear He says it would minimize touching up the photos later “But guys are probably a little afraid of makeup” he says Hairdresser Roj Thurgood makes some adjustments on last-minu- te Ms Melton’s hair (photo at near right) and photographer Ryne Hazen creates the final image (far right photo) Garry BryantStandard-Examine- r :1 i I - J 4 f 4 - 4 r ( ft A 4 f ? 4 ' y A v A A A |
