It’s true It will be starting in January with an after school discussion once a month This is going to be so cool for the kids (ages 12 - 16) that love to read and don’t have anywhere to express their opinions or be able to discuss what they’ve read Can’t wait! I’ll give you the details when we figure out what they are Keep those pages turning CDs rolling DVD reeling and MP3s 1 Fillmore Elementary School Three young men from Fillmore have earned Scou ting’s highest rank of Eagle They were presented their awards at a special court of honor on November 16 Congratulations to Bryant Christensen Dextyn Perkins and Nolan Britt (pictured left to right) Children’s Memory Tree and Corrrne Murray and Committee members wtll be at Delta City Park Saturday December 6th at 11 30 a m to decorate the Children’s Memory Tree Families who wish to remember children who have passed away are invited to purchase or make ornaments for the tree which is located on West Main Street on a mound to the right of the waterfall at City Park A list of the children being remembered will also be shown in a display case next to the tree The tradition of the Memory Tree was started in 1992 by Kathy Walker Judy Sabey the number of families participating has grown each year since Originally the tree was a cut tree put in place for the holiday season however Delta City kindly purchased a permanent live blue spruce in 2005 Please visit the Memory Tree and make it part of your holiday tradition For further information regarding ornaments or to add your child’s name to the list please contact Sue Peterson Again it is holiday time Members of the Committee of Hope are again sponsoring a fund raising event tn connection with the Holidays Our Memory Lane trees will soon be up with lights and names on them honoring those who have passed and also those who have been or done something special and are Hero’s to another person All of the proceeds from Memory Lane go to the Huntsman Cancer for research in the Foundation detection and healing of cancer No one doubts that research such as this is valuable in the fight against cancer But how many of us realize that in the researching of cures for cancer there have been many other benefits to help other illnesses Case in point a little boy just celebrated his first birthday in Primary Children’s Hospital He has been there for the past three months in isolation because he was bom with a severely compromised immune system After diagnosing his problem steps were taken to prep him for a transplant he had to yt his wetht up and be came the aasoog er active crawling and pulling himself up try ing to stand by himself he was bombarded Chemotherapy days he had a transplant of umbilical cord blood Hopefully this transplant will go to work to give his body an immune system and allow this little guy to have a normal life The process was developed as trials were made for cures of various cancers How can we not support research that reaches many other areas? This is just one example Please join the Committee of Hope in our efforts to continue research Cancer has visited far too many lives and left far too many unfinished dreams We all need to join m to do what we can to help get this “thing" this cancer gone We all can dream of that day when the “big C” is just a memory For a $10 00 donation the Committee of Hope will plate an ornament on a tree in Memory Lane Please indicate whether you wish the ornament to be in memory of someone who has passed or someone you want to honor as a hero Send the donation checks made out to Htmtsman Cancer Foundation to ComAuttee of Hope Marlene Whicker 165 N 100 W Fillmore UT 84631 Cool Kids AssemblySchool had an Fillmore lenientary On hursdav November Committee Of Hope Memory Lane Chip’s skill of learned social skills the next set after to of and with 6 tiUsanewtw assembly “Listening” to finish 3) I 200X 13 w hicb the Vie of Look at the speaker 2) Allow (lie speaker you listen you Show your interest and 4) Ask for clarification if necessary 2nd grade Mrs During the afternoon assembly for Preschool through Robinson and Mrs Inllins had students help them teach this skill using the “Do your Ears Hang Low” song Our 3rd and 4th grade had an assembly which reviewed three social skills which include Waiting Accepting Feedback and Getting an Adults Attention the negative They took a trip to Chipworts school of Magic and demonstrated behaviors and taught the students how to correct these behaviors Our teachers will be watching for students who are using the Listening Skill and our new of weeks Chip’s Cool Rids will be announced within the next couple U hen East Millard Sub for Santa program underway The Sub for Santa Program for the East Millard area is getting in gear for this Christmas season It has been the goal of this program to see thjt no child is forgotten at Christmas time A child is a wonderful gift to all of us and we owe it to them and to society as a whole to reassure each child that they are of great worth No child should wake on Christmas morning and wonder why they were left out of the wonderful experience of Christmas The Snowflake Tree will be in its usual place in the foyer of the Courthouse on Main Street during the season it will be in place for the lighting ceremony for the Winter Wonderland There is also a need for donations News Holden OwrrW Wood Metta George of Kanosh passed away at her home last week at the age of 85 She is survived by Ellen Maralee and Duane and was the wife of the late Van George She taught elementary school in Kanosh and Fillmore for 30 years Funeral services were held in Kanosh on Monday November 10 We will all miss this wonderful lady who influenced so many of our lives She taught me in the second grade her first year out of college 26 years ago Betty (Bushnell) Prescott and her husband Ron have retired and moved to Meadow from Las Vegas Betty is the daughter of the late Lena and We Ido Bushnell and thy live in the new yellow house on Main Street next door to Very and Sue Stewart Betty works on Fridays and Saturdays at the new Lemon Beauty Salon m Fillmore Please call your news to Cherry Wood by Thursday evenings Thanks so any of you that choose may make a donation toward the Sub for Santa program by sending the donation to Sub for Santa 765 South Highway 99 Fillmore UT 84631 Applications for help from the program may be picked up at the Public Safety Building at 765 South Highway 99 Deadline for applications will be Dec 8 Please pass this information on to anyone who may be interested By working together we can make a wonderful Christmas for those children who are in need Let us all work to see that no child wakes up Christmas morning without a smile and the knowledge that they are special most important thing in acting is honesty If you can fake that you’ve got it made George Bums The Every slep we take toward making lives by that much we move toward iheeses made from and Cow's milk “Cheese Curds" Award 'rCST FR£E AM hiatiiral ert New Items: Imported olive oil & balsamic vinegars Imported 2 year old Parmigiano Reggiano Roasted red peppers Red pepper spread Imported pasta Assorted gift items - Great for Christmas VATTiABlTCOUPON iCVW!
